Well this place was not what I was expecting. It is a classy restaurant with high priced food and drinks to prove it. The dcor is old and the place feels cramped. If you plan to go, make a reservation since the place gets packed fast. My husband and I decided to split an appetizer and main course. We go the escargot for the appetizer. They were baked in butter so I can’t complain about that. Very good. For the main course we got the parmesan encrusted sole. They have standard sides of asparagus and whipped potatoes. The fish was excellent. Had a great taste and very moist. The sides were cooked properly but nothing special. The entre was large enough for two people. Service will be slow to go with the atmosphere of the restaurant so set aside at least 1.5 hours to eat.

We were visiting Portland for the first time and saw this restaurant in the Seafood section of all of the restaurant recommendation lists that we looked at ahead of time. You couldn’t tell from the name that it is a McCormick and Schmick’s restaurant. Our hotel gave us a coupon for a free appetizer (total discount of $12.99). We tried the escargot. We had never eaten it before and figured that this was a good opportunity to try it. The presentation was nice; the serving tray contained six cylindrical wells, each containing a snail bathing in butter. The snails were even more tasty when I ate them with a squirt of lemon juice. For our entree, we split the sole feature of the day. It was encrusted in parmesan and served with asparagus and whipped potatoes. I think that a parmesan crust goes well with lots of food, and this was no exception. Our asparagus was cooked to fork tender, just the way that I like it. The whipped potatoes were okay. If I were blindfolded, I couldn’t tell that they were prepared in the restaurant kitchen from scratch.

Jake’s is a classy and hospitable establishment with absolutely fantastic food. I would come here again in a heartbeat. The service was truly impeccable. I dined with a large group and we were all impressed. The food is not cheap, but you get what you pay for. I had the oysters and the rockfish and they were both served/cooked to perfection and the portions were very filling. All in all, a wonderful place to eat at if you are visiting or a local.

I remember pulling up to this place. It had a bit of a fancy feel to it…. and when we entered it kinda lost that with the whole bar look but a mixture of old decor just threw me into a bit of a spin in how I’d describe the decor. I loved that they had valet parking as well. I remember staring down at the menu and the pricing was a bit jaw dropping. This was definitely on the high end scale of the food we’ve had in Oregon. The crawfish and all thing seafood sounded amazing and as a group of five we went a bit crazy with the ordering. We order a whole crab for my wife, so many dishes to share and luckily we got bibs so we didn’t dirty ourselves too much. To finish off was that amazing banoffee pie we all fought over. It was a night for the fatties inside us to party and at the end of the night my cousins shouted as well. We were too spoilt. Great night at Jake’s!

Jakes, such a classic and classy spot in Portland. I had the steamer claims (I know we are experiencing a red tide-don’t worry, these little guys are from the east coast at the moment). It’s an older/traditional classy spot in Portland. Excellent seafood and there is some outdoor seating which is nice in the summertime (but very close to the street).
