Mothra Says….A Local Hangout. Alright, so this might be the best kept secret in Portland, well specifically north of Burnside. We dropped in one evening recently not entirely knowing what to expect. While waiting for M & M to arrive for a cocktail/beer prior to dinner together, we looked around, settled in, and because this place at about 5pm was hoppin’ it took Cali a bit of time to get over to us. After about 5 minutes she arrived with a huge smile to take our order. Apparently she was the only server on the west side of the bar. This is not only a pub with many pints on tap, but after perusing the menu, it has some fantastic items: Cajun mac & cheese, pan fried oysters, buffalo chili, fish & chips, BBQ brisket sliders, a BBQ plate from their smoker at 250 degrees outside on the patio, and a number of really great burgers and sandwiches.We ordered a couple of Trumer Pils while M ordered an Arrogant Bastard & M ordered a Boneyard IPA. All good while we waited for our reservation nearby. It would not be the last time we would darken these doors……….Back again 2 hours later after dinner (see my nearby restaurant review) and Cali remembered our original order. Now that is good service, no Great. More servers in a bustling pub with a local group of patrons. Another round of drinks with great service. This is going to be a regular stop for Mr & Mrs Mothra.Great beers, great service with Cali, terrific menu. Good atmosphere, jazzy & blues music in the background. What a beginning and end to a terrific night. Mothra says… 3.45 of 5.0
What can you say about Life of Riley? Well the lights are jazzily dim. The lively crowd is much like a coliseum full of laughter and cheer. The drinks are reasonable and women, beautiful. With that being said, I would only return to this yuppie bar in hopes to knock up some trust fund baby.
Dove in and enjoyed the drafts.. It’s an ok place to hang out when you have nothing better to do.
Title. Great burgers
Perfect way to round off a perfect weekend. Fresh and crispy fish & chips, fresh and juicy sliders, and a yummy iceberg wedge and steak. Service was right there, the prices were reasonable and the food was hot, fresh and cooked properly. OK, I’m a bit redundant. Just wanted to emphasize the freshy freshness of it all. I can’t believe how perfect the fish AND the fries were. I wish I could find such food in the SF bay area.
Mostly really good. Good food. Good drinks. Not really a fan of the place on a big game night when everyone shouting at the TV, though.
Things have changed a bit since they nixed smoking downstairs. Although I’m not a smoker it added to the casual appeal. Now the smokers just stand right outside the entrance creating a haze to welcome you into the pearl district classic casual hangout. I am a huge fan of the dart board & jukebox. They actually make a pretty mean dirty martini too in case a gal can’t give those up.
