If the Pearl has a living room, this is it. On any day, the long row of Adirondack chairs is filled with chatting/gawking/noshing folks (and their dogs) from the hood. Nice spot for watching the streetcar go by every 15 minutes. House made breads, pastries, sandwiches, and soups. Stumptown coffee. thelunacafe.com

You call this dessert??. After a great dinner at Oba!, my wife and I came to the bakery for a little dessert. She ordered the carrot cake while I opted for the lemon pie, which the girl behind the counter highly recommended. While my wife’s carrot cake was dry (stale even?), the lemon pie was practically inedible. It was incredibly bitter, and after the first bite , I dissected the slice figure out why. They actually use WHOLE lemons, thinly sliced to fill a pie shell, then bake it….pits, pith and all.I don’t know about anyone else, but I never thought of eating a lemon the way I eat an apple. Who eats a lemon whole???? To charge $4-$5 dollars for a slice of HORRIBLE whole-lemon pie is beyond pale. I wasn’t so much angry as I was incredulous. What’s next, an unripe whole-persimmon turnover with a banana peel milkshake? Oh yeah, and avoid the outdoor wood lounge chairs. They’re remarkably uncomfortable and nearly impossible to get out of…and I’m very athletic. What a ridiculous place.Never again.

Great pastries but my coffee tasted burnt! How can someone screw up an Americano?

Decent bakery, but overpriced an unmemorable. Had a small egg and fontina sandwich. No vegetables or condiments. $5.25. Not bad, but not great.

The best bread. Excellent crusty rolls, baguettes and other goodies. Coffee is pretty good. Staff friendly. Great ambience, both indoors and outdoors.

Good sandwiches and outdoor seating. Food is slow to come out of kitchen, staff unfriendly, noisy place. We prefer Pearl Bakery and Nuvrei.

Thank heavens for Lovejoy Bakers. It’s my go to spot for homework, work breaks, and lunch with a girlfriend. Their russian tea cookies make me weak in the knees, and I’m one picky girl about my cookies. Their outdoor seating is perfect for this summer, and I never have to wait long for my food. Their atmosphere is not super warm, it’s clean, open, with wood and tall stools. There are times I have wished they had more than just that one corner of comfy bench seating. Sometimes seating inside can be a little limited, especially if you need a plug for your computer, but overall, Lovejoy Bakers has won my heart.
