Great Chinese Restaurant. I have been reading the various reviews about this place and not really sure what everyone is complaining about; although, everyone has a right to their own opinion. My husband and I have been coming here for quite a while and really enjoy it. The atmosphere is light, airy, modern and clean. The food is not cheap, but you get what you pay for and in this case you are paying for non-greasy, better quality food. If you want cheap Chinese food, don’t come to a nice restaurant in the Pearl. Their products are locally sourced and sustainable. Unfortunately, those ingredients do cost more, but we prefer to eat higher quality products and therefore, do not mind paying a little more in the process. Again, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I think that some of the reviews are a bit unfair.
I had high hopes. When I heard that Seres had gluten free chinese food options, I was excited to go there. My partner and I went during happy hour, and picked from both the happy hour menu, and the regular menu. We ordered a wide variety of dishes that were listed as being able to be made gluten free. Pepper salted squid, dry fried string beans, fried rice, and a stir fried chicken dish. As it turns out, they way they make them ‘gluten free’ is to make them free of any sauces or seasonings, besides salt, garlic, peppers, black pepper, onions chili oil and canola oil. Lots of canola oil. It was one of the the most disappointing meals I’ve ever had, and the oiliest chinese meals I’ve ever had.
A rip off.. I was visiting my family on Thanksgiving and got to the area pretty late. Most restaurant closed early and Seres was still open at 4:45. So I ordered 6 dishes to go, total of $95 !! I had been to plenty of high end restaurants with ocean views to have high prices like them. But I paid for the view on top of good food&service. However charging $19.99 for an order of small stir fried dish is outrageous for a restaurant like Seres. Food tasted not much better than Safeway Deli. There are too many places in this area to justify putting up with something as mediocre and overpriced as Seres.I would like to see how long this restaurant will last.
Overpriced Food with Average Quality. The food is way overpriced and the food is just so, so level. P.F. Chang makes better quality food at a reasonable price with consistent quality.
Great Chinese food! Salt and pepper shrimp was to die for. And the tangy pork was great with fresh veggies! Yummy stuff.
Best Happy Hour EVER!. This is my go to spot after work for a relaxing drink and delicious, healthy happy hour. The happy hour menu is quite extensive with gluten-free and vegetarian options. I love that their happy hour items are also available on their dinner menu, so if I want bigger portions of a certain dish I am in luck! The atmosphere is lovely – modern with a romantic, cozy feel. The service has always been friendly and all servers seem to be quite knowledgeable. I honestly don’t know where else you can find such fresh, healthy Chinese food in the area. They say their ingredients are all locally sourced and they don’t add any MSG to their food. No wonder I leave feeling light and healthy instead of greasy and sick! I DEFINITELY recommend Seres!
I love seres.. I was recently out of the country for three months, and Seres was the first place I wanted to eat upon my arrival back in Portland! Their menu is not only delicious, but diverse. I can have a steaming cup of hot and sour on a rainy day, or a light Buddha’s delight with tofu on summer afternoons. It is obvious that they are more choosy than most about the quality of their ingredients. My favorite part about the restaurant is that their happy hour goes until SEVEN, and all night on Tuesdays. That means I’m never rushing to leave work in order to make happy hour.
