Bunk lived up to my expectations!. With 2015 finally here, I set out to do something I have never done. I made a list of a bunch of various Portland restaurants that all have a high diner rating (85% or better), that I would like to try. This list includes, fine dining joints, to dives, as well as a list of various food trucks. As everyone knows, Portland is famous for their food truck selection. So, yes, I am going to try various dining establishments, just because I can. I love food, and I want to explore all that Portland has to offer. This being said, my wife and I started our 2015 Portland Culinary tour at Bunk Sandwiches. I had heard that Bunk Sandwiches had a delicious variety of sandwiches on their menu. Some of which were award winning. In my mind though, you can only do so much with a sandwich. It is just a sandwich. That aside, I went in with an open mind, and high expectations. The Bunk location that my wife and I visited was on Alberta street, next to the Salt and Straw, which we also tried and reviewed. We went on a Sunday night, at about 7:30 pm. The place was virtually empty, except for the one patron at the bar. My wife ordered the Pork Belly Cubano minus the pickles, while I ordered the Pulled Pork with everything on it. We found a seat and waited patiently. About 7-10 minutes later, our sandwiches were sitting on our table in front of us. I could tell by looking at my Pulled Pork sandwich that this was going to be messy. As in, the sandwich was piled with the pulled pork, and topped with the apple cabbage slaw, with the pickles hidden away on the bottom of the pork. Without delay, I quickly grabbed a stack of napkins in preparation for the delightful, delicious mess that was about to unfold. As I took the first bite, I could definitely taste the apple cabbage slaw. It had a sweet, but tangy taste to it. A taste that I would not like by itself, but paired very well with the pulled pork. The sandwich itself was hard to eat because every time I tried to take a bite, a juicy clump of pork and slaw would fall below on to the tray. Eventually, I stopped fighting with the sandwich and just ate what was left between the two buns, versus constantly scooping up the pork and stuffing it back on my sandwich. My wifes Pork Belly Cubano was also very delicious. Was definitely less messy in nature than my sandwich choice. Based on her reactions as she ate, the Pork Belly Cubano was awesome! Both of our sandwiches were served with regular kettle potato chips, which had the normal super crunchy taste you would expect. Overall, I really enjoyed the food that Bunk Sandwiches has to offer and was thus satisfied. Their offerings are both creative, and delicious. I will say, Bunk lived up to the expectations that I had for this dining experience.

Amazing food… wish the girl at front counter would not text on her phone the entire time you’re ordering though… very rude. Was visiting from east coast… I’ve traveled and lived all over including Tampa and the pork belly Cubano was right up there. Thanks

Poor Service. So my boyfriend had to work yesterday afternoon and I totally understand that no body likes to work Sunday but He decided to grab a sandwich from Bunk for a late lunch instead of heading to his favorite food cart. He ordered the Pork Belly Pork Belly Cubano, and told me later that the sandwich was great…the flavors were fantastic and bread perfectly toasted…he also told me that the gal working behind the counter was rude, and didn’t bother to acknowledge him other than to take his order…no Hi, have a nice day (very unfriendly)…nothing. It was the first time he had been in to Bunk for food …and after the snotty service most likely the last.I wait for the max everyday across the street and up until yesterday was tempted to pay the price for one of these legendary sandwiches…I am no longer tempted.

I would drive 1,000 miles…. The Pork Belly Cubano is the best sandwich I have EVER had in my entire life. It is worth going out of your way to get this sandwich. If you haven’t tried it yet go NOW!!

    Excellent sandwich choices. Small menu.

Tiniest place with great food. Ordered the pulled pork and the cubano. Both sandwiches were flavorful, well made, and beyond delicious. The shop is very small, and has one of the oddest seating arrangements I’ve ever seen.

The Italian. That Italian grinder, oh me, oh my. It’s tangy, it’s spicy, it’s perfectly portioned, it’s easily one of my favorite lunchtime foods in the city. Some might think $10 is a little steep for a sandwich, but this is worth every penny. Don’t think, just get it.
