Good Food, Filthy Restaurant. When I walked into this casual restaurant today with my boss’s boss, we were greeted by an obviously toothless man with ample fresh sweat stains on the front and sides of his grubby t-shirt. He complained he was dying from the humidity. He wiped the sweat off his forehead. He was friendly, and welcomed us inside and told us the food was fabulous. I asked him what he would recommend and he suggested we talk with the owner, who told us about all the homemade items. She was also friendly. The guy was chatty and smiled a lot.The only reason I didn’t run away was because of all the good reviews online. I tried not to look at the filthy, stained carpet, the strings of greasy dust hanging from the ceiling tiles (which were discolored a deep yellowy brown from grease and dirt), and the grubby condiments (which I was unwilling to touch). We both ordered cheese ravioli with meatballs and garlic bread. I scraped crumbs off a table, wiped it off with a napkin, and sat down. The silverware was sticky, and it took awhile for me to find a fork and knife that didn’t stick to my hand. That said, the food was delicious. The sauce, the ravioli, and the meatballs were homemade and the garlic bread was divine. Even the iced tea was homemade (Stash Tea Orange Spice brewed onsite). Now, would I recommend this restaurant? Nope. I loved the food but would have a hard time managing to eat there again. If it was as filthy as it was in places I could see, I can’t imagine what it is like where I can’t see. I don’t want to know.

Sub-stancial Gain. Well, I may have finally found the Meatball Sub that I had been hopelessly searching for. House Made Meatballs and Marinara? Check. Delicious, Crunchy/Soft Roll that doesnt split in half under the weigh of the Meatballs or the ooze of the Marinara? Check. Provole laid on thick and gooey? You bet your ass. This was a terrific Meatball Sub, with the Roll particularly, coming in miles ahead of others Ive had in Portland. While this is part of a local chain you would never guess it. As this place screams Mom and Pop from top to bottom. It did feel like a sauna in there, we ended up getting our lunches to go. But thats the only negative thing I have to say. I no longer need to look for an excuse to go downtown, as I now have a reason. And a hell of a good one at thatGrade: A (if only you were on the east side) drexlermcstyles.tumblr.com

What’s going on here!!!!. I can’t believe this place has so few votes! I went in for the Italian sub, it is hands down the B e s t sandwich I’ve had in my entire 26 years of life. And I have been to Paseo and countless other sandwich places across the USA. The service was really good, they weren’t busy when we went in and it was so so so good. I don’t live in Portland, I haven’t been there in awhile but I think about Geraldi’s Italian Sub every week… multiple times a week. It’s love. <3

It’s really hard to top the Spicy Geraldi. Such a great sub!! Homemade meatballs are very good too.

Friendly & lots of food. Went to Geraldi’s for the first time today and was immediately impressed with how nice the staff is. Got a lasagna with homemade meatballs and some garlic bread. Big portions, especially the garlic bread – it is easily 7 inches of buttery, garlicky baguette. Lasagna is old-school, just cheese and sauce. Probably going to have to share the garlic bread, because I can’t eat all this myself. Yummy!
