This is a pretty good place to go for Chinese hotpot. It is not as authentic as one would expect, but close enough. I was a regular there when I was studying at PSU. Lunch time is the best deal. Dinner is not.

Yum yumm. Dinner $15 all you can eat seafood, beef, pork, chicken, veggies galore. Self prepared in a broth of your choosing. Includes drink. Seasoned however you choose. Really neat setup/concept! Once you get the rhythm and find your seasoning mix it’s the greatest. Small place. Limited seating. So don’t come in a rush & expect to push people around. Owned/run by nice Taiwan lady for 11 years. Usually packed with Asians. Should tell you something!! Ha!!

Gourmets – GO AWAY!! This is NOT a gourmet place or is it intended that way! If your snobby self-importance demands fufu-food and ego-stroking attention, go someplace else, away from me, and mine! I love this place! Basic, do-it-yourself, buffet style, all-you-can-eat comfort food. The very best place in PDX on a cold rainy day! It’s a small place with limited staff, so service can be thin when crowded, but get over it. Go stroke yourself somewhere else.

If This is Someone’s Idea of Great Customer Service, I’d Hate to See Their Idea of Poor Customer Service. All restaurants share two qualities: The Idea and The Execution. No question Hot Pot City has the idea part nailed: Multiple ingredients that customers can mix and match as they see fit and then prepare right at their own table.Unfortunately, The Idea is completely overshadowed by The Execution: Price, service, and atmosphere are all huge fails at Hot Pot City. For the price of a $16 hot pot, I can get two bowls of Pho at any number of Pho spots around town, or two bowls of Augst Moon’s excellent Seafood Noodle soup.If the food were amazing, it might be worth enduring the bad. But it’s not. Why endure service that borders on the hostile and a dining room that makes a high school cafeteria look warm and inviting when so many better options are available?

By far the best kept secret in Portland. Fresh seafood, meat, and veggies. I go there at least twice a week and am obsessed. Don’t go expecting anything else served besides the hot pot ranging from mild to extra spicy broth. Ruby and Jack embody great customer service and are personable.
