feels kinda like LA. and I like LA…well parts of it. but this bar seems really proud of itself without providing adequate bar service. i was there on a Saturday night and there was ONE bartender. everyone at the bar as well as those sitting in various places around the restaurant had to go through this one guy. there were other servers running around but it was difficult to tell whether they were running service or just cleaning up. one table of four seemed to be able to order drinks from a secondary bartender but she never stopped to take orders from those forming a line at the bar even though the primary bartender was clearly underwater. i hate trying to navigate these things that should be obvious.
Fun place for an after dinner cocktail. It is a quintessential classic bar with low light and darker wood. They have a good selection of beers on tap. Additionally they have many interesting cocktails. I had the Balisong which was made with whiskey, vermouth and blackberry sage infused tea. It was a fine cocktail for sipping. It definitely was hopping as the night progressed. In the winter it would be fun to sit by the fireplace.
All I can say is WOW. What an addition to the upscale late night scene in PDX
