Will never go back and worst way to celebrate my birthday. The venue was beautiful and the food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend the butternut squash gnudi! Will be coming here again
Great experience. First night in Portland, visiting from Victoria, BC. Out walking and looking for a nice place for dinner, when we notice a nice terrace and decide to give it a try. Sure glad we did. The applies, mains and dessert were all remarkably good, as was the service. A very memorable evening. We’ll certainly be recommending it to any friends heading for Portland. Bland food. Only pasta options for vegetarians. Peanut butter chocolate dessert was basically a brownie with a piece of peanut butter fudge on top. Rancid coffee. Too expensive for such lack of imagination and taste.
Food is great. Service is good . Very inventive chef, so I cant understand why they would serve cold bread with plain olive oil. That was extremely disappointing for a restaurant of this quality.
Eater beware!!. I walk by this place pretty much every night, and it always seems busy, so I thought I would give it a try. Big mistake. The service is friendly and efficient; hence, the one star, for service. The food is terrible as is the selection of beer on draft, which in Portland is ridiculous. The pasta dishes are pure butter and cream, so if you want something pretty much tasteless with about 80 grams of saturated fat, by all means, knock yourself and your arteries out. The Tuscan bean soup had good flavor but was so rough in texture that dental floss and a water pik are an immediate necessity. The beet salad was strange and had no cohesion whatsoever; just a bunch of random things thrown together on the plate. I can’t comment on dessert because, after the aforementioned 80 grams of saturated fat, that would have been insult to extreme injury. I think that the locals hang at the bar and pretty much only tourists eat in the dining room. I’m not a tourist but sure felt like one when we were through. But, what the heck-it was only about $75 bucks and money grows on trees everywhere in this world.
Horrible service!. The food here was wonderful, but the service was horrendous. Water glasses weren’t filled until asked, we never received beverages we ordered, drink refills weren’t asked about. The manager was inflexible and unpleasant when we asked to push two tables together, and harrassed me when I expressed by displeasure at her inflexibility. There is lots of wonderful food in Portland. I won’t be suffering the pretentiousness and unpleasantness of the Nel Centro again.
