I am so proud of Estanislado Orona, the Bar Manager in the Rookery. He is so spontaneous, imanginative and innovative with the recipes he creates his drinks and concotions. The restaurant needs accoclades for holding onto and retaining this young man in their employ! Bravo, Bravo!! May he be there for a long time and win many more awards and accolades!

Good food and good service at R&R. The upstairs Rookery Bar is a fun scene with bar food and solid drinks. Don’t skip the Mac & Cheese. Live music occasionally. paperairplaneblog.com

I have dined at Raven and Rose several times but never in the upstairs bar called The Rookery. It was a lively fun space. I also liked the festive mint julep and the simpler pub fare menu. This is a great place for pre or post Schnitzer Concert Hall Dining.

Kitchen Consistency Needed. I am torn! I have tried this place a couple of times. Our first visit was very average and confusing – thank goodness they got rid of the Carmel corn and beef dishes! We love the upstairs bar and pool table – one of the coolest little happy hour bars in Portland in my opinion. Never had a bad cocktail, and I have tried a few-they could put a little less ice in the Moscow MULES, BUT I GUESS THEY GOTTA MAKE A BUCK.The service is attentive and he staff always seem to have a smile. Of course the restaurant in the old Ladd Carriage House is a wonderful and historical locale. The space is very well designed and the open kitchen w/ the wood fired oven is cozy on a cold winter night. Now to the food. We have had very tasty entrees and some that were not so hot – a little inconsistency from the kitchen. We started with the charcuterie which was OK, but not inspired. The tartar was ok, but slightly under seasoned. The Kumumoto Oysters were wonderful, but that is because these oysters are always good. The entrees were so close to being great. The lambs neck was the worst out of all – very greasy and slightly over. They were out of the pheasant and foie-gras and so they substituted chicken – a little dry on the chicken, but the foie-gras was very nice. The wood fried rack of pork and scotch egg had. A great flavor and was brined perfectly, however it was heavy on the seasoning. The best dish out all was the pastrami cured hanger steak was perfectly prepared to med rare, and seasoned well.Overall, I do like this restaurant, but I am a little frustrated with the inconsistencies from the kitchenFood: 30/40Atmosphere/vibe/decor: 20/20Service: 18/20Value: 12/20 (because of the quality of the food)Overall: 80/100

Birthday dinner for the wife. Got a table right in front of the kitchen so we had wonderful entertainment watching the chefs. Appetizers were the cheese plate. Three cheeses a blue, goat, and sheep. Blue was Orange in color and it was the wife’s favorite. Strong blue flavor . Goat cheese was strong and not really unique. My favorite was the sheep cheese firm but not super hard with a very smooth texture and taste. My aim was the rabbit. Tender moist with a very subtle taste. Wife had the pastrami beef. I loved the taste she liked it. Lots of juice on the plate which she feltade her Yorkshire pudding soggy. The potatoes were fantastic. Desserts were the Carmel pudding and gingerbread. I loved both wife favorite was pudding. Service was good even when kitchen was slow with app. They comped wife’s desert for her birthday treat. Solid restaurant worth the visit.

Great Thanksgiving Family Style dinner. The Raven & Rose was perfect for a Thanksgiving small family dinner. The traditional dinner was served on a large platter that was assembled with all the sides included, again ensuring a fine family dinner. The meal was delicious, from the starters to deserts (and bite sharing since we were family!)The wait staff friendly, professional & respectful. What a treat, great atmosphere, food, and no prep or clean-up! We all had a great time. Thank you Raven & The Rose!Cheers

AMAZING. I went here twice so far. Once for my bridal party announcement and the other for my/fiance’s birthdays. The service was amazing and it was truly wonderful for a small get together. I have been at both the Rookery upstairs (at the library) and also at the downstairs dining room. The atmosphere is awesome and the staff is really nice. In addition, the food and drinks are delicious. I highly recommend eating here or even just stopping by for a drink!
