Finally got here after numerous attempts on Sundays when they are closed. Cute little sushi restaurant near the Keller. Prices were ok but the sushi had mistakes and the tempura was soggy. Very poor parking in this area.
One of the best traditional sushi bars in the country. If you are looking for disco sushi stay away. This is the kind of quiet place one would find in Tokyo. Excellent typical assortment of standards prepared by a skillful chef. Make sure you get the fried shrimp heads.
Authentic sushi experience. This place was a pleasant surprise! My date suggested it and since I know I like some sushi (still working my way up the fish chain so to speak) I was all for it. It was packed on a Friday night, and I saw there were these little rooms you could reserve to take your shoes off and sit down on the floor authentic style and stuff and I think that would be something cool to do sometime. We were seated at a small two top and it was perfect for a date. The staff were amazing, really attentive and happy to explain anything to us with big smiles. The food was so fresh and the servings were big. I’m not a big wasabi fan, and I found out that they put a little dab of it underneath each piece of fish, so I will ask if they can omit that next time I order, but otherwise for me it was amazing and I can’t wait to go back! Like others have said, it is right off the street, but the moment you step inside it feels like you’re someplace else! Oh, and parking seems really easy there, there is a smart park just a block away as well as street parking around the corner and I parked in the $5 lot right there inside the building (I think this is only available to the public during nighttime hours though.) All in all, I can’t wait to go back with other friends and family who are big sushi fans!
Best sushi ever. We went to this place because it was an easy ride on the streetcar. It’s right off the street, but inside you feel like you are miles away. Quiet and quaint, the staff are very friendly and the food is AMAZING. The sushi was the best I ever had, and I also got the teriyaki beef, which was very good. One or two Japanese businessmen came in and sat down at the sushi bar, speaking Japanese to the sushi chefs and waitresses. Seemed very authentic. The bill can be kind of high, but it’s worth it.
Supreme Sushi Experience. I have never been to Japan but my friends who travel tell me that Restaurant Murata reminds them of a humble sushi place in Tokyo. I’m originally from San Francisco, where sushi is supposed to be supreme but, I’m telling you, Murata’s is truly the best in the West! The fish here must be the freshest in all of Portland. Start with the California rolls, which are bigger and tastier here than in California. But do move on to the more exotic selections. BTW, the unagi is incredible, and the sashimi assortment just melts in your mouth. They have soothing tatami rooms but for the full experience be sure to sit at the sushi bar so you can interact with Mr. Murata himself. He is truly Portland’s Sushi Sensei yet remains humble and personable. For many years I thought he did not know English because he always spoke with me through his charming staff. Then one day, I brought a friend who asked Mr. Murata about how maguro tuna is caught. Suddenly, in halting English, the Master launched into a regaling story of Japanese fishing. The man is full of surprises.Restaurant Murata, like Andina, is the place I bring visitors when I want to show off the best of Portland.
Murata. My all time favorite sushi place on the planet. Love the entire gang that works there. Best spicy tuna roll ever.
