Not Pleased. I came across Canton Garden online, as I was inquiring if any Chinese restaurants in Salem delivered. Canton does not deliver to our location, however I continued to use their website to submit our pick-up order online. Upon pick-up, I was asked to not use their website to submit orders; I was told that online orders are not easy for them to understand. I am not certain why a website is available for ordering if staff cannot understand orders submitted.Upon returning home I found that a portion of our order was not in the bags. We had friends over and had ordered a larger quantity. Next, the items that were fried tasted as if they were cooked in very old oil. To top things off, as soon as I started breaking an egg roll open, I could smell something rancid. Both egg rolls with our order was rotten on the inside. No exaggeration…it took 15 minutes to clear the dining room of the rancid smell from the broke open egg rolls.Needless to say, I will not be ordering from this restaurant ever again! Lesson learned.

Building’s been around for a while, BUT the food’s good. What’s especially great about this place is the portion sizes!!! You really get a bang for your buck here while getting yummy Chinese. Dishes/Buffet may seem small at first, but everything’s fulling for the stomach.

Not Good. The last time I was there, the waitress was anglo trailer trash and country music playing. Food was like low-grade TV dinner and the place was dirty. Maybe it has changed.

One of Salem’s oldest Chinese places.. Like so many others, it doesn’t look very appetizing from the outside. When I walked in at 12:15 PM, and was the only customer in the place, I was further spooked. The decor strikes one as unchanged over many years. My server seated me, gave me a menu and told me it I wanted the buffet, it would be a few minutes as they don’t set it up until the first patron wants it. HMM! Not encouraging so far! I chose to try the buffet. She brought me Egg Flower soup, which was good. (What is it about the Premium, two per package saltines? This is the second Chi place in a row where they were stale!) Stick with me, it does get better. When told the buffet was ready, I ventured forth. I had fried rice, won tons, almond chicken, sesame chicken (wonderful) beef chow Yuk, sweet and sour pork and onion rings. All way above average. ($5.95). I did notice the menu items seemed considerably higher priced than at other similar places. Keeping an open mind, difficult as it is, is sometimes essential to allowing a mediocre experience morph into a very positive one. I recommend this place.
