  Though they’ve stubbed their toe a time or two….. Del Taco is still one of my favorite FF places in Salem. I usually go for their tasty Soft Chicken Tacos, but an on-line friend’s review of the Albany location got me thinking about the Crispy Fish and Crispy Shrimp Tacos early today. Soon after the seed was planted, I found myself at the DT counter ordering up one of each. My friend was right, these were some delicious fast food. One squeeze each from the lime wedges and sauce was unnecessary. Just what I needed to tide me over ’til a late lunch.I really wish we had a Del Taco in South Salem. (Are you listening corporate?)13 Apr, 2012New menu items!. This is by far my favorite fast food chain Mexican place in Salem.They still have their tasty original Soft Chicken Taco to which they have added a Chipotle and a Ranch Soft Chicken Taco. I tried one of each today. The filling quantity consistency is still and issue. One was loaded and the other had about a tablespoon of Meat. Flavor-wise, they were both well worth the 99 cents. I also had two of their Fish Tacos. The Fish pieces were mostly Batter but I realize this is not haute cuisine.I’ll probably wander back in in another six months and get my semi-annual Soft Chicken Taco fix.04 Dec, 2011Inconsistent filling quantities!. The forty nine centers are still a bargain, but one was brimming with Meat, Lettuce and Cheese and the next was only half full! I expect this at Taco Bell. (Great disparity from one visit to the next.) But this was the first time I’ve experienced this at Del Taco. Their Soft Chicken Tacos for a buck are another tasty value.26 May, 201149 cent Tacos………….. Now every day! Also 49 cent Bean and Cheese Burritos. And they still make the best (and the cheapest {$.99}) fast food Soft Chicken Tacos in town! If you can afford bus fare, you can afford to eat here.31 Mar, 2010The best fast food Mex in town!. Truly, I can’t understand why anyone would go to Taco Bell when there is a Del Taco within ten miles. (unless, perhaps he/she is on foot.) My favorite menu items there are the soft chicken tacos (99 cents), krispy fish taco, and the chicken del carbon. Their burgers are acceptable also.

  Taco Tuesdays. I went to Del Taco yesterday with a hungry stomach and four children in toe. We ordered 12 tacos which costs us a mere $4.86. Thinking this was an exceptional deal, I decided to but then each a churro for 99 cents a piece.The crunchy tacos were a dissapointment 🙁 After about 5 minutes of bickering about who was going to sit where the kids started eating, however, in the 5 minute window from when we ordered until we started eating the tacos became very soggy and the bottom literally FELL out of one of them. It is clear when you order the tacos that they are priced as is because if the lack of meat and cheese that other fast food chains provide at a higher cost but, skimping on the taco shell? A closer look at the meat turned my stomach. It resembled cat food more then hamburger (maybe as a result of sitting in it’s own juices for too long).TO MY GREAT SUPRISE, none of the children finished their churros! My 8 year old described it as disgusting. When I tasted it, it appeared to be fried way too long leaving a hard crusty stale tasting outside with a spongy middle. Pretty disappointing when you consider that I spent just as much on the churros as I did on 12 tacos.I did enjoy the mild sauce much more then packets offered by other local ff joints…less vinegar in their sauce and more spice. All-in-all…I will not rush across town for Taco Tuesday anytime soon.
