Best Bet on Portland Road. I’ve been here twice this month. Thought I’d say a few words in case anyone is looking for grub out that way or for folks coming off the freeway. The food is very good and the portions are very generous and the prices are cheap. The tacos and enchiladas are just as good as they are at more upscale places. I thought the sauces had lots of flavor. The food took a bit of time to come out but that was clearly because someone took the time to prepare it properly. To me, part of what makes a good Mexican place is the freshness and tenderness of the meat because with so many Mexican places the meat is leather. Not here, the beef was fresh and had come off a nice roast.I would like to direct your attention to the salsa bar. There were a couple of salsas that I thought were awful because they tasted like pickles. However you will notice a tub of black oily tar in one of the tubs and I noticed that the Hispanic diners were loading up on it. Wow! is it tasty…and hot! It is some kind of roasted pepper paste and it should be bottled and sold. It is not a smoky chipotle taste but something rich and roasted. I really like this place. Do not be put off by its unpreposessing looks.

Not so much. We had lunch at Don Pedro’s Time on Sunday and were really disappointed. My husband had their chimichanga and found it stuffed with mostly rice and beans. Although it was huge it lacked flavor. I had two beef and one cheese enchilada with rice and beans. The enchilada sauce was overpowering and tasted like tomato. Who used tomato in enchilada sauce. It was thick and just didn’t taste good. The beef taco that I had was made with a burnt tasting ground beef that was way too chunky for taco meat. We were greeted by a very nice woman and our orders were served well only not at the same time. They did have really wonderful salsa available.I’m a pro cook and I liked these hardworking people. It’s too bad I couldn’t spend a day or two showing them a few tricks! Unfortunately, most people don’t react well to that kind of suggestion.
