Best Chicken in Salem. Sell your smoker. You can’t make it as good as you will get from the weekend Chicken Master at El Torito. If you are traveling down Lancaster in the afternoon or early evening on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, roll down your windows when you get to Sunnyside and take a deep breath. Smell the goodness. Then make a beeline for the parking lot at the El Torito. For only $10.99 you can take home a much better charcoal grilled chicken than you could ever make yourself. You may have to wait in line. These are popular chickens, and the Chicken Master does not serve them up until they are perfectly cooked. He’ll cut yours up and then you need to race home to eat it while its still warm and juicy. Best chicken in Salem. I’ve gotten one two weekends in a row and I will probably made it a weekend habit. It’s that good.12 Jan, 2012Good Carnitas Tacos. I finally took Chuck’s advice and stopped here today with mi amigo Arturo to take a few photos and sample a $1.50 carnitas taco. The meat was good. Very fresh (made here). The tortillas, though they give you two (a plus in my book) were not the greatest. They didn’t appear to be handmade. The red salsa was good. I want to come here again to try some of the other things on the menu. The menu says they have caldo de birria (goat soup), barbacoa de borrego (lamb) and queso de puerco tortas (head cheese). Those all sound interesting. I’ll be back.
