Not The Best. I tried Geppetto’s for dinner while staying in Salem. While not being in the mood for pizza, I opted for the mushroom and chicken linguini dish with calamari as a side. The linguini dish had a very bland Alfredo sauce that tasted like it came out of a jar, and there were maybe 6 quartered mushrooms in the dish. The calamari was decent, but the sauce they provide with it did not pair well. It looks like it was at one time a great place to eat, but the decor is dated.

I walked in a little……… Before 1 PM remembering a decent salad bar here on my last visit. A few beats later a fellow and the same lady who I remembered, somewhat indifferently, from my July 2010 encounter greeted me.I asked if they still had the salad bar. The gent said: We just took it down. We set it up at opening and nobody’s touched it. I don’t think there was another patron in the place. I sure hope their dinner business is better. The whole vibe I got today was one of despair.Disappointed, I walked down the strip mall to Hometown Buffet, my sunny disposition still intact despite the feeling I’d just left a funeral.01 Jul, 2010The food was good. The rest, eehh.. I entered as soon as they opened at 11:30AM. As my server was walking me to my table, I noticed a fresh looking buffet. She seated me and gave me a menu. I told her the buffet looked pretty good, but that I’d like a minute to view the menu all the same. I opted for the buffet. I had Italian sausages (Voget’s perhaps?) in a red sauce, Manicotti pasta with chicken in an Alfredo-like sauce, Sausage and Cheese Pizza (which I further topped with Pepperoni from the salad bar), and a green salad with Ranch dressing. It was all good. The dcor struck me as a bit dated. Once I told my server I was having the buffet, she pointed me to the plates and I did not see her again until I approached the cash register to pay. (No check was delivered to my table.) I can’t say she was unfriendly or discourteous, just indifferent. If you want good food and don’t require pampering by the wait staff, this is a good place.

I just moved to Salem and was running errands when I saw the restaurant. Went inside to have an early dinner and it was terrific. The staff is very friendly gave suggestions on what to select from their diverse menu. The lasagna was amazing. I could use a slice to float down the Willamette river if I was floating it is so good. Josh R. and staff can’t wait to see you next time.

Time Warp. Wow! This place has not changed much since the 80’s. Even the same (good) waitress! The pizza still has great flavor. The house signature sausage links are perfect. Still has spuds au gratin on the buffet. I adore the height challenged waitress. She is like a welcome fixture and remembers you. The salad bar is small, but has everything on it to make a wonderful salad. Note- the pizza is like Chicago’s best. Actually tasts like an Italian had something to do with it:)

Midwestern Pizza. From the title you may be thinking this is a put down, but I don’t necessary mean it that way. It just reminds me of my time living in Minnesota for several reasons. 1) They cut the pizza slices into squares instead of wedges. 2) They put the cheese on over the other toppings. 3) The sauce has a very sharp tomato taste. 4) It has this crazy crispy crust. All of these characteristics remind me of the pizza I consistently got when living outside Minneapolis. It can certainly hit the spot and having discovered this place my boyfriend loves to get pizza here. I usually order spaghetti (which is also quite good and I appreciate the garlic butter for the bread). My one tip: If some part of you secretly craves a Totino’s Party Pizza every now and then, this pizza will be right up your alley. It bears a striking resemblance, but it a touch more upscale. The decor of this place is a little bit dated, but I find this place charming and very cozy. I cannot resist a place that puts photos of customers on the walls.

Yes it’s Italian but …. – basing my review on the main entrees, I’d say the meal lacked any distinct flavors – the flavors all kind of ran together – I’ve never tried the pizza, that MAY be better …

Frozen pizza is better. Service ok. Lasagna is ok
