Breeze On In!. La Brisa (the breeze) is a Mexican nightclub that is trying to also be a restaurant. They are advertising their food service from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. everyday. After 9, I understand, the joint is hopping with live Mexican bands on the weekend. We decided to try it for lunch. We were the only ones there, but the three ladies running the place were friendly and could they cook! There was no menu (again, I think they are just getting started) but they recommended the carne asade plate (thin marinated beef steak) and the costillas de puerco (stewed pork ribs). Sounded good to us. We sat at the bar and got two beers. They brought chips and two kinds of homemade salsa. The meat, with rice, beans and tortillas (not homemade), was wonderful, especially the costillas in a spicy homemade tomatillo and dried chili sauce. You’ll want to lick your plate. The ladies are from Guadalajara and they like to chat. Our big platos were reasonably priced at $11 each. The Mexican beers were a little overpriced at $5 (more like the nightclub price I would imagine). I think they need to bring down their beer prices a bit for the lunch and dinner customers. I highly recommend the costillas — best I have had in Salem. Check this place out.
