On the recommendation of the desk clerk, I walked over to the restaurant. I found the wait staff courteous and professional. I had been driving mountain roads most of the day and needed to relax, so I ordered a beer and a cup of what turned out to be a most excellent clam chowder. It had large chunks of clam in a matrix of beige creamy soup. It was flavored with bay (I found a leaf! A sign of good fortune) and thyme, and the color was obviously from browned onion and garlic. It came with herbed garlic oyster crackers. It was delicious, and it paired well with my Widmer Drop Top Amber Ale.For a main course, I chose a shrimp louis. It was delicious. The mixed salad greens appeared to contain large amounts of flat leaf parsley in addition to the usual lettuces. The shrimps were small, tender, and local. The large croutons were house made, flavored with garlic, and very fresh. It was very pleasing. The dessert menu contained several intriguing items, but the one that caught my eye was a marionberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. The berries were few, mostly flavoring the base. My portion had four or five plump, tart/sweet berries. The crust was a shortbread, browned nicely around the edges but pale and nearly uncooked in the center. The vanilla ice cream was ordinary. The dish did not live up to my hopes.Though the dessert disappointed, I would return here the next time I pass through Salem.

Great Food & Service. I don’t get the 65% rating. The food was great. Service was better than the usual. I ordered appetizers and drink. Then ordered an entre contrary to the menu and was accommodated by the chef and manager. Don’t pass this one because of rating.
