A Great Breakfast Spot. We have been fans of Josey’s breakfast for a long time, but didn’t realize that the Ritz Dinner was run by the same folks with the same menu. It was a pleasant surprise. The homemade corned beef hash is some of the best in town. My dining partner liked her Hobo Omelet. There was only one server, but she did a great job of keeping everyone happy. We’ll be back to the Ritz.

In love with the Ritz and Josey’s. I am a huge fan of the whole in the wall restaurants. and this is my go to place for a great affordable breakfast. They always have great service at the ritz, it is same and she can’t help but see you need her. And when I say same I mean 7 tables and a bar. I love the Colorado cooler, and they always have a french toast special. For 5.40 my son gets a jr one pancake breakfast and he can finish his whole plate and be full. which is amazing. I recommend either one but if you pick the Ritz know the seating is limited and timing can be everything.

So There I Was…. Wandering around Salem at 6am looking for breakfast. While driving around I remembered seeing a little diner named The Ritz over on Lancaster. I whipped the car into the parking lot at around 6:20am and waited for their odd opening time to arrive, 6:30am. As soon as the open sign came on, I flew out of the car like Usian Bolt off the starting line. The Ritz is what I would call a classic diner. All the un-healthy, artery clogging, and consequently delicious breakfast items can be found here. Food so unhealthy, men the likes of Dr. Oz would curl up and die just from reading the menu. Basically, its the good stuff. The waitress sat me in the corner booth, gave me coffee, and offered me the morning paper (I dont know why, but I thought that was really cool). After examining the menu, I whittled it down to two choices: the $6.95 chicken fried steak and the $8.95 home made corned beef hash. Beings that I am enraged by 98% of restaurant hash that I order, I opted for the steak. The Chicken Fried Steak comes with one egg, hash browns, and toast. When I went to order, I was informed by my waitress that it was only a half-chicken fried steak (which she assured me was still good sized) and that you must purchase a drink in order to get the $6.95 deal. This irritated me for two reasons: First, I usually only order water because I dont want to pay $2-$3 for a drink. Secondly, I felt like they were trying to pull some kind of trick and I really dont enjoy hidden fees on my breakfast. Alas, I went ahead and ordered a coffee and the steak fully knowing that it would jack my bill to somewhere around $10 thereby not making it a deal at all, but rather just another $10 breakfast. The Steak arrived and smelt pretty darned good. The white toast, over-easy egg, and shredded hash browns were what you would expect. The Chicken Fried Steak was delightful. The thin, crispy battered half-chicken fried steak, was about the size of other places full steak and had wonderful flavor and texture. The country gravy on top was very good as well (and Im not a huge country gravy eater). All in all, it was worth the Hamilton and I will be back at a later date to try some of there other breakfast vittles. I suggest that if you want to hit up a good breakfast spot in Salem, give em a taste.
