One plate follows another. Is it just me, or was the inventor of offering food by way of one small self-service plate at a time a genius? I would swear that if Sushi Kyo’s portions were sitting in cafeteria style bins and I simply filled a tray all at once, I would eat much less than when it comes at me, one small colored plate at a time, circling the track, beckoning for me to reach forward. Didn’t take it this time? Don’t worry, it’ll be right back. I took my daughter here as a treat and one large pile of empty plates later we were on our way. I’ve always found Sushi Kyo to be a great option if you want to eat and run – good variety, no waiting around. The items were all good and our server (despite it being mostly self-service) was attentive. We’ll be back.

Sushi. By far my favorite spot for sushi here in salem. Love the salem roll! You must try it! Definately would recommend to anyone.

Hmmmm sushi on a belt. I have to say I love sushi. I think I’m a bit of a sushi snob in fact, and I’ve never tried a set up like this. I’ve seen the conveyor belt thing before, but where i’m from it never took off. I had to give it a go. Well it was OK. Fair price. Thats about it. Not alot of selection. They used that semi frozen saku block tuna cut way to thin and not handled quite right, but it was fresh and kept at a good cool temp so I cant complain. I supose I just need to find a real deal place. I hear Cherry’s in keiser is good I’ll have to give that a whirl. I miss albacore, hamachi, escolar, saba, all the real fresh nagiri sushi I used to find back home in LA. As for sushi kyo not bad if your looking for a relativly cheap, quick sushi fix. Watch the belt though some of the stuff sits a little too long.

A great place for Sushi rolls. I stick to the Sushi rolls like the Spicy Tuna, the California, the Bagel roll, and the AMAZING Salem roll. The Salem roll you have to order so it’s always fresh. My absolute favorite is the Oregon roll which features a slice of Sashimi or raw tuna on top. There are times that this should be bright pink raw slice looks brownish and not fresh and so I stay away. Other than the fact that hot things don’t stay hot (I don’t get these items) I enjoy Sushi Kyo everytime and have never been disappointed.

Getting there early is key.. When I visited the Commercial Street store nearly two years ago, I was just beginning to develop an interest in Sushi. Since I have been to quite a few places and have a much better frame of reference.I arrived early in the lunch hour today and most of what I had seemed reasonably fresh. I think conveyor belt places may have a tendency to leave items out long enough to make made-to-order places a better bet for top quality. You will pay more but bargain hunting in the Sushi world can come at a price.I have no complaints about Sushi Kyo today but Cherrys in Keizer or Sushi to Go on Commercial street south are the local places to go for the best Sushi.

The worst sushi in salem easily. Its not fresh at all, taste like frozen defrosted seafood. Items that should be hot are cold and soggy, cold items are room temperature. The conveyor belt idea is cool but they do not execute it well. Low quality and not well maintained at all.

The MSG Headache may be altering my view. Of this place, but here it is anyway….Clean-ish. We almost walked through piles of dirt as a woman was sweeping and leaving little piles around. For 30 bucks we ate a small stack of plates of mediocre food. The conveyor belt is cute, but I’ve seen it before and seen it done better.Hot foods served cold. All hot foods were cold to the touch (yes, I lightly touched the surface of the protecting plastic bowl). I don’t recommend anything ‘hot’.One server had quite an attitude and it was like we were imposing on her homework (or whatever she was working on) to ask for an order. Sushi was OK but we stayed away from any sashimi. All the fish tasted as if it had been thawed from frozen. There was a lot of Krab (fake crab) and cucumbers. Eh.We left feeling like fools for spending $30 on sub-par food like this and should have just saved our money and gotten a cheeseburger from, well, anywhere. Will not return.
