Surprising SilvertonSilverton is a smallish town and I wasnt expecting much in the way of fine dining. I shouldnt have been so quick to judge.The town is charming and has lots of nice shops and interesting eating places. A very good garden and even a Frank Lloyd House are nearby and the city is the gateway to the beautiful Silver Falls State Park. So a good number of tourists come through.The Silver Grille is the best reviewed restaurant in town and we were looking for dinner on a typically busy Mothers Day. The charming bartender was able to find us a place at a high-top in the bar area.The drink menu was the only disappointment. A restaurant of this quality should have a selection of house-special cocktails. Silver Grille only had pretty standard stuff with some very minor riffs on the typical classics.Our meal started with a delicious water buffalo carpaccio. Yeah, I said water buffalo. Had to try it and was hugely impressed. Then we shared the Naughty Librarian Salad (not quite sure what act the librarian performed) which was delicious. We moved on to a wonderful monkfish. This isnt easy to cook and goes from mushy to tough very quickly. This was perfectly cooked. We also had a leg of lamb special. This was the best lamb I had ever tasted that wasnt a lamb chop. The accompanying sides and sauces with each entree were great.Gimme a drink list worthy of the food and I would happily return at any time.
