Said Hawaiin, had to try it. We enjoyed our lunch, I had a Dakini (small) portion of Honolulu Beef which was fine for me. My better-half had the Huli Huli Chicken (teriyaki) regular size. They also have Alii (King size). It was OK for a fast lunch. Music could have been Hawaiian to improve the atmosphere. They come with rice and mac salad. You can subsitute Romine lettuce for the carbs if you want, I did for the rice. Also you can choose grilled veggies for $2.00 more.

Consistently Delicious.. My wife and I have been visiting this location as long as it’s been open, and have never had a bad experience with the food or the service. Every menu item we try is satisfying and we love the variety. My wife loves that they are happy to substitute grilled veggies in for the mac salad (for a small fee). For the prices, the portions are generous. The service is always warm and friendly. We would whole-heartedly recommend it for a quick weeknight meal.

Good Stuff!. I’ve been wanting to try Hawaiian Time since it opened and finally had the chance today. It was exactly what I expected. It’s quite representative of good Hawaiian fare. The dining area was modern and clean and the service was efficient and friendly.I had had the Mixed Plate (you get to choose 2 meats). I picked Kahlua Pig and Mauna Loa chicken. The Kahlua Pig was flavorful but a little dry. A quick jazz up with the plentiful teriyaki sauce and it was quite good. The Mauna Loa chicken needed no assistance and was nicely flavorful as served. The accompanying mac salad (a traditional Hawaiian side dish) was quite tasty. I’m generally not a fan of mac salad, but this was good. The rice was cooked properly and served in just the right portion.I’m not sure why this place is getting mixed reviews. Sure, they don’t have coat hooks in the bathroom, but that’s no bother. 😉 Hawaiian Time brings a nice addition to Salem and delivers exactly what you’d expect. I’ll be back.

*chow MEIN, not neon noodles. Gotta watch that spell check!14 Jul, 2012I had the teri chicken salad…took it to work, so got the chow neon noodles on the side. Very filling and satisfying…the combination of chicken with fresh mushrooms, crispy greens and canned mandarin oranges was just right. I was the envy of the breakroom!

Pretty Ono Grindz. I’m glad I didn’t listen to the negative comments on this site. Restaurant is nice and open with tables and chairs. Decor is nice. It’s walk up and order style and it’s delivered to you at your seat. Self-serve drink. They also have a selection of drinks in a cooler, including HawaiianSun, which is very cool. Dishes come in three sizes. Reasonably priced for $. I had kahlua pork with mac salad and rice. Pork was onolicioius with their house BBQ sauce. Mac salad was more peppery, less tangy than store bought – I liked it. Rice wasn’t typical style sticky rice, but it was good. Person I was with had the Mauna Loa chicken. I sampled and really enjoyed it. It wasn’t overly saturated with sauce, but I wouldn’t have minded if it was as I like sauce. They have bottles of BBQ, Teriyaki sauce and another sauce near the beverage dispenser. Wasn’t a big fan of the teri sauce. You can also choose a less carby option by omitting the mac salad and rice and adding lettuce. They have a simple menu which I appreciate. The location on Mission is nice as the other options on Mission are all high-fat, fast-food. This is a nice change of pace. Not a big fan of Asian restaurant behind K-mart. Overall, it was a really nice eating experience. I will be back to try other menu items. I hope they open their drive-thru at some point.

I knew what I was in for…. That is why I’m not really upset about what I got today for 8.00! Huli Huli Chicken in a nearly black sauce placed on a heavy bed of rice. I didn’t want the mac salad (had it at a Xmas get-together (bland and mayo heavy). Guess what, I got an extra scoop of rice to fill the hole in the to-go container. Now I have about half a pound of rice with a little dash of chicken something on top. My lunch companion had something different but it looked the same. As long as they have been open and the fact they still have customers plus the nerve to open a second location just shows how easy it is to fleece people in Salem. Really didn’t like won’t return.
