Service was horrible. Didn’t know we spoke Spanish and proceeded to speak about us in Spanish to co-workers. Terrible service! Worst experience I’ve ever had anywhere.

Pupusas!!. These Salvadoran tasty treasures are not usually found on Mexican restaurant menus. I was delighted to find them here today. They had several stuffing options, but I went with Chicharrnes (Fried Pork Rinds) and Cheese. It came with a spicy Pickled Slaw which was very good. I also had Mojarra Frita (Tilapia Filets lightly breaded and deep fried) which came with the usual Refried Beans and Rice. Three piping hot Flour Tortillas came with the order. The prelude, of course, was Corn Chips, Salsa and Bean Dip.I’ve always found the food good here. The menu is larger and has greater depth than most Mexican places. The prices are higher than most but I can’t say I’ve ever felt ripped-off.My server, Eva, was a spritely little pixie and did just fine.If I were on a budget, I might shy away from here. But after several sorties, over several years, that would be the only thing that would keep me away.If you’ve never had Pupusas, that would be a good reason to try Los Arcos all by itself. And tell ’em Chuck sent you.10 Jul, 2011Huge Chile Relleno!. I got it on a combination plate. It was good and super cheesy. My Refried Beans were better than average and the Rice was unspectacular but was served on a puddle of tasty Enchilada Sauce. I had not seen that before and I liked it. My friendly server started me off with a big basket of warm Corn Chips with Salsa and Bean Dip. I thought it was a good lunch in a nice atmosphere for $7.50. As I left, I wondered why I hadn’t had Lunch on their shaded patio on a beautiful day such as this.Note: I mentioned a year or so ago; that they had a health department report that was marginal. They scored 100% on their May 2011 report, so whatever the problems were, they have obviously been resolved.23 Apr, 2010A good experience. Salem has gone from, essentially, no Mexican restaurants to many good ones from which to choose. I count Los Arcos among them. Most recently I had a chicken enchilada which was very good. (note: this restaurant was consistantly ripped on another review web site! I don’t get it.)(Note added 6/6/10: Their health department inspection of 3/23/10 gave them a score of 70. Below 70 is failing.)

Untrustworthy. My wife and I bought a certificate to Los Arcos through restaurant.com and tried to take the kids here last night. At the lobby they posted a sign saying they are no longer honoring those certificates, which was disappointing. We would have spent much more than our certificate was for, but we felt like their decision not to honor their coupons anymore showed a lack of character and integrity by the management which would have ruined our meal out and possibly could have been indicative of cutting corners and showing the same lack of character when it came to things like kitchen cleanliness and food quality. We chose to go to Los Dos Hermanos instead, which has great food and is run by a very nice family. If you go to Los Dos Hermanos, try something from their El Salvadoran section…very cool options!

Chicken soup oooooo la la!. If you have never tried the chicken soup at this eatery you are in for a real treat! I am more of a meat and potatoes (and ofcourse pizza) kind of gal myself but, thanks to Oregon weather and an illness that I was trying to overcome, I was tempted to order a bowl on Chicken Soup on one of my latest visits. The server told me that the soup took a little bit of time and due to a sore throat I decided to agree rather then argue the fact.My soup took about 15 +/- mins to arrive but, the moment that I took my first bite I was in heaven!! Vegatables cut chunky and cooked perfectly al dente. It appeared that there was atleast 2/3 to a whole chicken breast floating amongst the best chicken broth, seasoned with a hint of mexican spice, that I had ever tasted. I asked my server if the soup was made to order and she confirmed my suspicion. The soup came with a side of rice which I ended up adding to the soup about half way through. I do believe that the soup ran around $6-8 but, was TOTALLY worth the price and the wait. This restaurant has won me over with their soupy perfection!

For sure the los arcos burrito is the best burrito in town. The salsa sucks here but the food is very good and the drinks are spendy when not on happy hour but romeo knows how to make em

Even the occasional disinterested server can’t detract from the great food
