They do not want to be a late night place. Ok, we decided to go out late, we walked in about 1145pm. We got prompt service, and since we just missed the end of the first live band, we didn’t pay the cover. (who has a cover in Salem?, they do)The late night menu food was good, but the prices and the variety of food was lacking. Fries, chicken strips, hot wings, and a 4$ house salad. The band started up again, and played about 4 songs. Phamos Phases, the singers mic was way down and you couldn’t hear the words from the bar, but the bass was so high the bar shock. Then the lights came on at 1am. I am not a night owl or anything but the place was full. They had to work around people to clean up because people where just talking and hanging out. They could have gotten another 2 drinks out of us. But nope, they close at 1am. For a place that busy, they could have made another 400 or more in profit on a Friday night just from the young people who left when the lights came on.
Sports Bar. If watching football on a Sunday morning while enjoying your breakfast is your thing, then this is your place. Football on several screens at full volume. We stood at the door for awhile, waiting to be seated (not realizing this is really more bar than restaurant) while several staff walked by us. Finally one told us to sit wherever we wanted. We took the only available table. It seems that lots of folks spend the entire morning here watching the games. There were 3 of us this morning. I had the special Traeger Scramble. It was your typical egg scramble with the added twist of having some nice smoked meats inside. It came with some rather anemic country potatoes that really could have used some more time to brown. (see the picture I posted). One friend had a veggie omelette. She reported liking it. Our other friend had the Eggs Benedict. She had to send the first order back as the eggs and ham were stone cold. The server told us repeatedly that she hadn’t touched the food so she couldn’t vouch for its hotness (she reiterated this several times upon serving the newly cooked version as well. Odd).Overall, I liked it and will likely go back when football is on my morning agenda.
Great staff. Our group of friends and we have been eating brunch here as often as our Saturdays will allow. We love it. We really like the staff and how they always remember our favorite drink orders, but the food is actually great too. I adore the chicken-fried steak here, some of the best gravy in town — on a huge platter with hashbrowns, toast and eggs for only $7. Leave plenty of $$ left for another round post-meal! Also, the bartenders here know their stuff and you will have a properly-mixed drink any time of day you might visit. And if we happen to make it in for happy hour, how awesome is the free nacho bar?? I love snacking while I drink beer and if you buy a drink during happy hour Mon – Sat (3 – 6pm), all-you-can-eat nacho bar with hot melty cheese, beans, salsa and jalapenos is yours for free. That’s love.
We were on our way to Portland and picked this b/c it was listed as a Gastro Pub & it got good reviews. The positives: it has a good beer selection, we had our 3 young children & there was a kid menu & pinball, Cajun chk Alfredo was good & food in general was good. Negatives: this place has no atmosphere … This is a college bar/hangout.
Great breakfast. Stopped in for a hearty Sunday breakfast. Had the Denver Omlet. It was GREAT!. Tasty. Cooked just right. Service was prompt although not many patrons were there yet. As I ate the football vieing crowd gathered and the servers got busy.
Disappointed. Based on the happy reviews, I thought I would visit for a 7PM meal. My wife and I love South Salem and eat out often. We walked in and since no one greeted and there was no signage we just took a table. The place was full and the focus seemed to be the bar and the pool tables. We saw two people serving at the bar, one was wearing an apron and looked like a possible waitress. Only one table had any food being eaten. The last time we were here was during the previous management which was not pleasant. We waited at our table for 15 minutes and were never acknowledged at all. Vivien said that maybe it was like an English pub where you order at the bar. It seemed like the food service was just an afterthought to the bar action so we left and went to Applebees.
Oh My Fries!. Bought a standard cheeseburger a few weeks after they opened. I devoured all of my french fries before even touching my burger. I am glad to see this local business thriving!
