Love this place. Old supper club vibe – VERY good good and service. We had prime rib and the blue cheese dressing is fantastic. Our grandson had chicken fettuccini that was the best I’ve ever tasted.
Excellent food, excellent service!. The exterior of the building is deceiving, you might not go inside, but if you don’t you are really missing out on a fabulous dining experience! The service was also excellent!
Good food and good service. My wife and I were traveling through the Dalles Oregon and decided to stop and eat. Not being from the area my wife googled the local restaurants and found the Hi-way house. The reviews were overall good but warned you not to let the exterior of the building fool you. When we pulled up I noticed the outside looked run down but we went on in. We were pleasantly surprised when we opened the door. The interior was quiet clean and comfortable. The service was pleasant. The food was excellent. The bread brought to the table was homemade and outstanding. I could have made my meal out of it alone. My steak was cooked perfectly was tender and tasty. My wife had the halibut and it was good as well. The price tag was also very reasonable for the food we had. Over all this was an eccellent dining experience and I would return in the future
Response to the BLT comment below…… I would like to respond to the latest comment from the gentleman who had a bad experience due to his dissatisfaction with his BLT. I would like to say that we do not even have a BLT listed on our menu (let alone nothing listed with bread, only hamburger buns) and I felt I was trying my best to accommodate this gentleman by creating an item that we don’t even serve at the restaurant. I informed the gentleman that it would be placed on a hamburger bun before I even served it. He seemed to be satisfied with that. I also discounted his sandwich and only charged 7.95. I apologize that he ended up not being satisfied with his experience after all, but we do our best at the restaurant to accommodate each and every customer.
Would never go there again. How can you have a BLT on your menu and have no bread. It came on a Bum. Shredded lettuce and small Roma tomatos with no flavor. $9.00 for this and a plate of string grease fries. Prices to high and food was bad
Oh so cold…. I have been going to the Hi-Way House for years, and back in the day it was a great place to dine. Over the last couple of years it has declined. The food has not been good and the restaurant was outdated. I was encouraged that things had changed for the better, as they have been doing a lot of advertising, the interior has been updated and the parking lot is always full. However, we were very disappointed this evening with our dining experience. First the positives. We were greeted right away at the door and seated immediately even though we didn’t have reservations. Our waitress was pleasant, attentive, knowledgeable and accommodating The restaurant was clean and had an updated, current look and feel to it. We ordered Prime Rib and Stuffed Prawns, baked potato, vegetable, with Seafood Bisque Soup to start. The soup was served topped with oyster crackers, which I thought was odd, as they are usually on the side (not everyone likes crackers with their soup), and it was thick (like concentrate) and very cold. Too bad because it had good flavor. We did tell our waitress and she apologized and offered to replace our soup, We declined as we had already eaten what we were served. Our main course arrived in an appropriate time, and initially looked great, but we found it to be cold and unimpressive. The Prime Rib had wonderful flavor and cooked perfectly, but stone cold. The baked potato was so cold it couldn’t even begin to melt the butter. The two asparagus spears were cold and had no seasoning at all, appeared to have been microwaved and then left to get cold. So disappointing. Don’t think we will be returning anytime soon.
Atmosphere needs improved. Good prime & halibut. Staff excellent.
