Mothra Says…. Good Home Style Cookin’. After strolling out of Branch whiskey bar, the four of us walked down the block and took the last table at Bernies Southern at around 7:30pm on a recent Friday evening. This place was rockin and rather loud in a fun way. As you can tell by the pictures that you will not see, it was rather dark as well. I should have brought my real camera and taken real photos…. As opposed to these ridiculous telephone, timekeeper, sudo cameras. Enough of that.Mike and Mary Ann had been here once before this past summer on an August afternoon when the temps had hit 100. But now this was a chili November evening with a brisk wind and a drizzle to boot. Ryan jogged over and snapped off a couple of one liners (not bad actually), dropped off some menus and departed for now. I saw an interesting French red glass of wine at about $6.00 and just had to try it. K said: Ill have the same. That was a very good choice and not the last good choice of the evening. After perusing the menu of interesting entrees, Mike and MA both mentioned they were ready. K and I took just another moment and then advised Ryan who I was small talking with about the different specials and what he likes and didnt on the menu. Although he came up with some good alternatives, I had my sights set.We ordered and then waited the 35 mins while dinner was cooking and the four of us chatted and got to know one another a bit better. M & M are nice people who have walked in some of the same circles as K and I. Small world. While waiting on dinner, I just had to have another glass of this red French table wine (which by the way I cannot get the name of). And a bargain at 6.00 a glass.Dinner arrived and the entrees were temperature hot. I just love it when my food comes out of the kitchen hot. My twice dipped southern fried chicken all boneless white meat arrived piping hot and smellin (that’s a word!) won-der-ful. In addition, my plate included a ramekin of roasted Brussels sprouts in a creamy sauce, and a side of mac n cheese. Woof! I mentioned out loud, no way to eat all of this. Too much food! Nice problem to have huh? Ks entre was a warm beet salad, creamy goat chevre bed of greens, in a light vinaigrette dressing. In addition, she ordered up four of the tastiest crawfish cakes you have ever wrapped your tongue around. Wow, gently battered and fried in something beautiful like bacon fat I hope. These were crusted and light as a feather. Ks dinner went home along side of mine to be devoured the next morning. We strolled out of Bernies around10:30p with only the bar slightly occupied. With dinner, drinks, a nice tip for Ryan, the nine year vet at Bernies, $130.00 out the door for four. Not bad. You need to try Bernies. We certainly will be back. Mothra says: Good service, prices, and Good home cookin southern style. 3.80 of 5.0

Being a southern transplant to this great city, I really have to say this is the place I go to get my fried food fix! The fried okra, hush puppies, and especially the fried pickles have never disappointed me! Definitely worth checking out!

Wonderful. My hubby and I go to this restaurant all the time. We love the food. We’ve been so many times so we’ve figured out what dishes we prefer. Prices are good during happy hour. You can get out full and tipsy for about $60 (two people). And the happy hour is good. The atmosphere is fantastic. In the summer the back patio is opened and it’s beautiful out there. Above all, the staff is fabulous. They are so kind and we continue to return mostly because of them. The food and drinks are a plus. If you like spicy food, you can get spicy food. If you don’t like spicy, then ask for the spicy sauces on the side, because you’ll love the flavor but want to keep the spice under control. If you go during happy hour, you can easily get full for a great price. We continue to visit this restaurant and really respect the staff and the chef. We highly recommend it. B&C
