We enjoyed eating at Swiss Hibiscus. It was such a treat to enjoy authentic German/Swiss food. We had the cheese fondue appetizer which is a must. Our main dish was the snitzel with amazing spatzel. It was a great eating experience. Mike and Sharon Almer Vancouver Washington.

Tiny gem. Their little space is easy to miss on the NE Alberta strip, sited just off Alberta on NE 14th. I’m glad we made the effort to find it. Casual and laid back, VERY attentive and friendly service, moderate prices, a tight menu that slam dunks. The dishes all most delicious. I had the goulash, of local tender pork in a heavenly cream sauce. Rosti like the best hashbrowns you’ve ever had. My companions seriously enjoyed their food too–wienerschnitzel, lentil stew, bratwurst (with Swiss mustard). It reminds me of a Swiss-German version of La Buca, but more intimate. Place is small and popular so plan ahead. A new favorite of mine.

Exceptional. Wonderful staff, bright and light space and outstanding food. A little hidden, but worth seeking out Caf Hibiscus! Highly recommended!

I can’t say enough about this Cafe! We went on valentines day, the place was small but cozy. He had goulash and I had wienerschnitzel. Both were delicious. But the service was above and beyond, they made me feel right at home. I will come back!

German-Swiss and Hawaiian Fusion Works For Me. Some friends happened to mention that there was an interesting restaurant they wanted to try in the Alberta Street area, and said it was a German-Swiss cuisine with Hawaiian accents. Two things came to mind from my travels to Germany, Switzerland, and Hawaii. One, I didn’t remember any pineapple on my schnitzel, wurst, or fondue/raclette. Two, I didn’t remember any Swiss cheese or spaezel on my Hawaiian Kahulua Pork and Spam platter. But intrigued and game, we joined up to sample the lovely cuisine of Cafe Hibiscus. Others are correct, this cafe is very small with limited tables and seating. Our party of four waited a bit for a table to open up, and we were glad we did. I must be honest to state that when I get hungry or a mad case of the munchies, it is not German, Swiss, or Hawaiian food that comes to mind…usually Mexican and Italian wins out. But the food at the Hibiscus Cafe is fresh tasting, well prepared, and downright tasty. My wife opted for an open faced smoked salmon sandwich and I went with the schnizel and rosti (hash brown like potatoes flecked with bacon). Zer godt! Our friends had two of the daily specials, consisting of meats, spaezel, and vegetables good enough to make them yodel in satisfaction. We all had the French Onion soup, which had a great broth and a yummy Swiss cheese coated crouton. We did not sample the Hawaiian special of Kahulua pork this time. We wanted our first visiti to be about the European foods. Add in Alpine beer from Austria, and a good time was had by all. This place has a huge friendliness factor….the owner and staff are so darn nice it makes everything even better. It definitely is the kind of place I would want in my neighborhood, and I would be a regular because I like the food and people who work there. Will this cuisine reign supreme and out perform Italian, Mexican, Vietnamese, and Barbeque in my culinarily prejudiced world? Probably not….but neither will English Pub Food or most items from Borneo for that matter. I know where to go when a good schnitzel and trimmings, cheese fondue/raclette dish, or French Onion soup is required. I know where to go when I wanted to be treated right and made to feel at home. I know where to send my old Roger Federer poster. Give these good folks a try and I suspect you will enjoy yourself. Grade A-.
