Mother’s Day Lunch for my bride.. There are rarely any surprises at these places. We enjoyed the usual mediocre, comparatively high priced food and exemplary service.SWMBO had a Grilled Shrimp over Spinach Salad and a Mimosa. She said both were fine. I had a 7 oz. Sirloin with Herb-Garlic Shrimp with Bruschetta. ($13.99) One does not expect a Sirloin to melt in one’s mouth like a good Filet but should anticipate a flavorful Steak. This one required an inordinate amount of jaw and steak-knife saw work and lacked the hoped-for flavor. The Shrimp and Bruschetta were OK. The order came with Cubed Red Spuds and a Mix of Yellow Squash, Broccoli and Carrots which surely came from a freezer bag. Ive had a better Sirloin at Windjammer for $6.99!I’m always impressed with the level of professionalism demonstrated by the wait staff. If I were a nascent restaurateur, I’d be trolling these places in hopes of stealing employees. These people are superbly trained. It’s the rare sales resistant patron who gets out of Applebee’s without having an extra $5 worth of suggested add-ons tacked onto their bill!I give them a D for value, a D for food quality and an A for service.Note: They allowed an ambitious Mary Kay representative, in the entryway, to accost all female patrons with a silk rose and an appeal to fill out a personal info card to facilitate building her junk mail list. Tacky to say the least!
Sliders (and Surprised… in a good way). I know it’s silly to rave about a slider… but, the Applebee sliders have a synergy that’s unexpected. The crispy edged beef patty is wonderful against the soft roll… and the over-all flavor is delightful. Basically, it’s just meat, cheese, sauce and onions (grilled but lightly). I actually crave them. Their spinach shrimp salad is wonderful but I suggest ordering a few slices of lemon to cut the sweet dressing. I can also vouch for their quesidilla burger and southwest chicken salad…. quite nice. I have had a few bad turns there (mushy, overly garlicked vegies, weirdly textured noodles and too-sweet sauces, for example). It’s odd that there’s a mix between what’s good and what’s not BUT what’s good makes me return. Anyhow, what surprised me is that they own up to their mistakes and take extra care to keep their customers happy. Our order was inadvertantly canceled so after a bit of a wait, the manager came and told us that our dinner was on the house. Asked us to please have a soup or salad while waiting… of course, also on the house. (I had and liked their french onion soup… I expected a cup but was brought a bowl.) She also brought us small desserts AND coupons for a free appetizer. Anyhow, we were impressed by this professional behavior and will continue to keep them on our dining list. It does get busy and we had a rather forgetful waitress once but, in general, the servers have always been friendly and attentive. And, yes… it is a chain, but the Liberty Rd. Applebee’s (I haven’t tried the others) is still worth a spin.
Lunch at Applebees. This restaurant chain appears to have a following. Having gotten a gift card we decided to try i again. The experience as not good. Food expensive and i could only eat the meat which was the Orange Chicken. The rest was a weird mix of rice, veggies and noodles. The sauce destroyed the whole thing. Waste of money. My husbands steak was tough. So we will not be going here again. On to other places to try. Better luck next time
Only if you enjoy pain. Bad tacky things on every wall. Food that is much too expensive. Drink that is much too expensive. I came here due to the fact that I had a gift certificate from Christmas. Now that that certificate is gone, I don’t have a reason to ever come here again.
