Big news!. Continental Delight, operators of one of the mid-valley’s two best food trucks, and Gilgamesh, the area’s premier craft brewing company, have partnered up in The Lounge (see review) to bring Salem the best slosh and nosh opportunity imaginable. I’ve experienced their offerings separately in the past but just discovered this combined enterprise. Pure genius! I plan to make it a regular stop.17 Oct, 2011This is a sparkling…….. New food trailer in Salem. And its fare is not what one would normally associate with this type of enterprise. They will usually have a Filipino menu item or two. Since the hasty arrival and departure of the Nipa Hut in Keizer, this is the only opportunity I know of, in the area, for examples of this tasty cuisine. Today they had Pancit Noodles. I sampled their Clam Chowder. It was loaded with Clams and rivaled Captain Don’s Chowder once offered by the greatly missed Caf K.I.S. Although Chef Rod Aspillaga understandably declines to discuss recipe ingredients, I imagine I detect a hint of dry White Wine in this wonderful creation. Whatever’s in it, it is well worth your attention. Not on the menu, but offered today was Penne Pasta Shrimp Alfredo. Perfect al dente Pasta in Alfredo Sauce made with Zucchini, Sun Dried Tomatoes, finely diced Red Bell Peppers, Scallions, sliced Portobello Mushrooms and loaded with 31/40 count Shrimp. This is a dish one might expect to find on Davinci’s or Caruso’s menu priced on the uphill side of an Andrew Jackson! It was that good. I also had one of their Sliders which was served on a soft Mini-Bun with sauted Onions and a slice of fresh Tomato and was skewered with a quarter cut Dill Pickle and a tangy Brine-cured Green Olive. Though it didn’t knock me out like the Pasta and the Chowder, it was mighty good. I think Chef Rod and Company (three other young men) have a unique food trailer concept. If they can just navigate through the anti-entrepreneurial, business-killing bureaucratic labyrinth of government, I think they’ve got a sure winner.
