I love the Kitchen on Court Street! I have been here many times for lunch and for breakfast. The service is good and the food is solid. I have never had anything that knocked my socks off, but I always get a good meal here and the prices, though a little high for Salem, are fine with me. I like that I can get breakfast late in the morning. Now they are open 24 hours a day! How cool is that?
the food was good.i was going to go back there again until i discovered that i was charged 2$ more tips that i actually left, my bill was 24.50$ , i left 5$ tip and few weeks later while checking my bank for totally random thing i notice that my charge form the kitchen was 32$ which really isnt ok.i called the owner who was apologetic and made some lame excuse about credit card machines sometimes charging twice if they swipe wrong , to be honest not really sure what he was talking about, he promised to send me a gidt card which still didnt receive.I am not to person who cares about 2 bucks but this was straight theft which i know happens a lot in restaurants,in general ,so yeah check your statements
Horrible first time experience. Walked in and was greeted by an unfamiliar smell, not the expected smell of food but was a turn off in itself. We were seated at a small table with one of us having to site on a industrial metal chair that was pressed from a 55 gallon drum and leaned against a piece of rebar. After requesting one of the open booths, we were ignored and then asked to speak with the manager. She did nothing to make us feel welcome and we ended up leaving without eating. I highly recommend you find a more friendly restaurant while visiting Downtown Salem Oregon. Very disappointed. Worst Dining experience I can remember. #employessmakeadifference
Loved the Eggs Benedict! What a great atmosphere too! Will definitely be back. Fried bacon coulda used more powdered sugar, it’s more of a funnel cake taste that way.
Was a nice lunch. The girlfriend and I had walked past this place numerous times and felt in the mood for something new and gave it a shot.Walking in it was very clean and fairly upscale for downtown Salem. It appeared to draw the middle class to upper crowd, as also seen by price. However, it was a nice environment, no loud music or obnoxiously loud customers. Looking at their alcohol selection, they only offered middle shelf on up. So if you get a drink made, you know you’ll at least have it made with middle shelf alcohol. Again this reflects in the price.We had to wait for a little bit to be seated, but the waitresses were running their tails off. Once seated, she got to us fairly quickly and took our drink orders. I had a Gin Fizz (Ransom Gin, fresh lemon, sparkling wine, sugar, orange juice, on ice). Pretty good gin and made for a very nice summer type drink. It was not overly sweet, more tart, which I enjoyed. The girlfriend had a extra dirty martini (introduced them to her recently). This had been the waitresses first time making it, but did a good job at it. It did come in a large scotch glass, though, not that the vessel matters too much!I ordered the blackened catfish sandwich w fried green tomatoes and fries. The girlfriend got the BLT with sundried tomatoes as well and a side of lamb stew. The catfish sandwich was pretty darn good and spicy. It had an apple slaw in with it along with a chipolte sauce. My only complaint on the sandwich was the blackened catfish was not blackened very well, but that was pretty minor. Still tasted good! The fries are those super skinny ones that one needs to grab handfuls of to eat. Good, but not wild about them.The girlfriend’s BLT was pretty darn good as well. Pretty standard BLT, but with fried green tomatoes, which is a great addition. My only thought is with the tomatoes, it drowned out the bacon flavor, therefore needed a bit more bacon. Other than that well prepared. Her lamb stew was very good, but the lamb needed to be salted slightly (mind you I am not a salt guy).Overall I was pretty happy. At times the service was slow, but they needed more staff. The cooks and waitresses were working hard! Also, no bartender, the waitresses did that too! I came away spending a little over $40 for two meals and two cocktails, which seemed about right for the type of establishment.
I have been here a couple of times, and the food has been consistently great. The drinks are very good. Last time, I had the prawns and grits, and they were delicious. Tonight, I had the hanger steak special, and it was one of the best steaks that I’ve enjoyed. It came with a blue cheese butter and it was amazing. Atmosphere is very hip, and we enjoyed sitting in the big table in the front window of the restaurant. Service is very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend it!
