La Guerita Has Found a Permanent Home. A few months ago the Salem City Council changed the mobile food truck ordinance which meant that La Guerita did not have to move her operation down the street. That was a big relief for her. She likes where she is at 25th and State Street. Now that the rainy season is here you got to admire her willingness to serve up great tacos and tortas in the cold and rainy weather in her tent. Go by and show her some love. Her food is really great and she’s a very friendly person if you get a chance to chat with her (she speaks English and Spanish). Her taquitos and tortas are hard to beat, especially for the price. Yes, she is inspected by the Health Dept. and runs a clean establishment.01 Feb, 2014Some of the Best $1.25 Taquitos in Town. Poor La Guerita! The City of Salem makes her move her taco tent one block every six months for no good reason. She will have to move again in March, but at least she will be back on the corner of State and 25th which is better than her current location up the street. If you haven’t been to see La Guerita, you are missing out on great taquitos and tortas. Today I got three $1.25 taquitos to go. She heats up the tortillas, two per taquito, on the flattop to freshen them up nicely. Then she adds your choice of savory meats (beef, pork, chicken, tongue). She doesn’t skimp on the meat. You add your own condiments and you can eat it here or she will wrap the plate up to take with you. This might be one of the best $3.75 lunches in town!29 Nov, 2012Great Torta for Only Five Bucks. I stopped by La Guerita today. Look for the tent on the south side of State before you get to 25th. Turn into the parking lot before you get to the tent. La Guerita will greet you from her cozy tent warmed by the flatop. The specialties are tacos and tortas with your choice of meats. Today I had a torta (sandwich) with half adobo (spicy pork) and lengua (beef tongue). They are made to order. Delicious, and only $5. I got my choice of hot or milder salsa. The hot is hot! Gringos may want to opt for the mild or a combination. Check this place out!
After my umpteenth……….. Drive by of El Bukanazz to see if their new location is open, (it’s not) I continued down State Street to La Guerita Taco Tent. For $5 I had a Pastor Burrito. Let me delve into my bag of adjectives to try to describe the size of this thing…………. Here’s the word, big. It was big! It weighed in at way over a pound. And it was……….digging into that bag again……….good!12 Nov, 2012Good street Tacos!. First, my thanks to Amecameca for, once again, guiding me to a good spot for some good eats. This hardy young lady was cheerfully braving the bitter elements today in her food stand/tent. Rain came down and wind whistled through the open end of her little enclosure. But her flat-top was hot and she had all the ingredients to make me a brace of delicious Tacos.I had one Lengua and one Cabeza. She had a good selection of condiments set up at a table at her tent’s end. I piled on the Cilantro and Chopped Onions and added some good Salsa Verde from a squeeze bottle and juiced a couple of Lime Wedges on top. Both were good and won’t break the bank at just $1.25 each.I thanked her, told her they were good and started to leave when she reminded me that payment was in order. Oh! Yeah! That!I recommend this place. Amecameca was right. As usual.
