Yummy surprise. My Mom and I went here for lunch. At first the location was a little awkward for Mom. The bistro seating is located RIGHT next to the central desk for the office building that it is located in. It didn’t bother me at all. We split a turkey bacon club and a greek salad. For $7 the sandwich was amazing! Thick turkey and delicious bacon and provolone. The salad had tons of kalamata olives, which restaurants normally skimp on. Mom got a black lemonade which had fresh blackberries and was wonderfully refreshing! While we waited for lunch the very friendly server brought my daughter out an espresso cup filled with one of their soups of the day, tomato basil and a few crackers. She was so happy, Mom and I tried the soup and it was so good!
This Raspberry Whiskey Shrimp Salad…… Has been in my crosshairs since my initial visit a couple of weeks ago. After one failed attempt, today I hit pay dirt!Kate, the friendly proprietor, explained to me that this dish evolved from a Rib-eye Steak dinner entree at her McMinnville restaurant. The Steak was served on a bed of dressed raw Spinach, Artichoke Hearts and Raspberries and topped with the Shrimp, Sauteed Mushrooms, bits of Bacon and Shaved Fresh Parmesan Cheese. Folks kept asking for more Salad and Toppings, so they finally just skipped the Steak and offered it as a Salad! It’s served with two diagonally cut and toasted French Baguette slices. What a wonderfully refreshing and uniquely delicious light lunch! ($12)Orchards Bistro just graduated to my favorites list.14 May, 2013Amazing quality for the price!. Note: All reviews written prior to April 2013 were for the, now closed, McMinnville Location! This Bistro is located in the Mission Oaks Building at the corner of 12th and Lee Streets SE in Salem. Thanks to Navalis for finding this place!I scored a great window seat and having looked over the menu, decided upon a cup of French Onion Soup ($4) and a Grilled Turkey Club. It’s simply described as Smoked Turkey, Tomatoes, Lettuce, Applewood Bacon and Provolone Cheese. To tell the truth, for seven bucks, I wasn’t really expecting a spectacular Sandwich. When it landed on my table, I was very pleasantly surprised. (See photo) It was made on house-made Ciabatta-type Roll which they reversed (split-side-out) and grilled on a Panini Press. It was stuffed with high quality Smoked Turkey Breast Meat, fresh raw Spinach, sliced Tomato, a thick slab of Provolone and lightly dressed with Ranch Dressing. Each half was impaled with a bamboo skewer brandishing a Grape Tomato! It came with a generous handful of Crinkle Chips. The Soup was rich and had a generous amount of good Gruyere, but was slightly salty for my tastes. My glass of Ice Water was backed up by a chilled wine bottle on my table. The place is set up for dine-in for breakfast and lunch only, but provides a dinner to-go option. The menu consists primarily of high-end Sandwiches, Soups and Salads. I noticed, belatedly that they have an interesting selection of flavored Lemonades.Only one menu item topped the $8 mark; a Raspberry Whiskey Shrimp Salad at $12. (definitely on my to-do list!)I’m thinking, after another visit or two, this one’s going to end up on my favorites list.
