Recently an Italian shop closed down and immediately went into renovations in downtown Salem and Ritter’s opened up in its place. Apparently doing well for itself because there were plenty of people already in there and I believe it is still there soft opening.I was downtown with the girlfriend and decided to give it a try and am certainly glad i did. The place has high tables with stools, booths, or tables with chairs for seating options. They have a bar to sit at as well. There are not a lot of high end options for drinks, but a decent range of mid-level alcohols. We sat down and ordered our meal from a very friendly and courteous waitress. I ordered the organic mixed mushroom, roasted garlic, and briar rose goat cheese pizza. The girlfriend order the roasted turkey and bacon-pepper jam sandwich, which comes with lettuce, tomato, and cream cheese on a ciabatta roll. While waiting for our meal, I went and ordered a drink. I ordered a mint julep, which turn out to be whiskey with some mint at the bottom with some ice. However, the bartender was really cool to chat with and really liked the guy. He may just need a little more experience. Maybe the mint was flavorless; I don’t know, but the mint was non-existent and contained no hint of sweetness. I’m a straight whiskey drinker anyway, so I was happy regardless. The pizza was amazing and wish I could order this pizza from every pizza joint because this is now all that i want from pizza. When I got that bite with a piece of roasted garlic along with the goat cheese I could die happy. It really went well with their white sauce. It was a good pizza. The girlfriend really enjoyed her sandwich, but I found the jam to be a little too sweet for my taste. However altogether it was still a pretty darn good sandwich. Thus far the service was good and friendly and the food was pretty darn good. It was not super cheap, but worth paying for what you’re getting. I’m sure I’ll be returning to this venue. P.S. Sorry for the menu photos,; I’ll have to get closer ones next time, but it’s on their website.
