Great food and service! The shepherds pie was amazing and their cakes were decadent. Very friendly staff and cute atmosphere. A little hard to find but worth the search!
Cute Little Spot, Good Comfort Food. The girlfriend, when out and about, discovered a little Irish-like restaurant/pub. When she came home she told me about it. I spent some time on the east coast and loved going to Irish pubs there and decided it to be a grand location to go to.This restaurant is located on the basement floor of the Reed Opera House. It is definitely not a location you see from the road and decide to try it out. However, I think it is a place you should locate, because I had a good experience. When we arrived, we were the only people there. They are still relatively new and have not built up a large fan base. I do not think this is because of the food or service, but rather a lack of being discovered yet.The service was pretty darn good. Course we were the only ones there. Though I say this because the gentleman working was more than willing to answer my ten thousand questions about the food and beer. The beer they offer are only Irish beers. They only have a small selection, but are hoping to expand. They offered Guinness, Smithwicks, and Harps. I ended up with the Smithwicks which is an amber. I’m a fan of dark brews, but this one satisfied my dark styled beer flavoring. As for the food, all I can say is it is comfort food. The type you think you would go home to a friend’s mom’s house and she cooks up some food to make you feel good…. and Irish. I got some form of potato mash with cabbage, veggies, and some Irish sausage that was very light, but incredibly tasty. If I though I enjoyed my dish, the girlfriend got a lamb Sheppard’s pie. This was simple, but incredible. I loved my mash, but was envious of this pie. I kept stealing bites from the girlfriend.Overall the experience was good and the gentleman working there was wonderfully helpful and friendly. The only negative thing I can say is the owner was free with information, but not overly social and friendly. However, I did not take this to be mean-spitited, but just not an overly social person. I definitely recommend this place and hope more of the Salem foodies to check it out. It is small and quaint, a cute date location and need your business.–UPDATE 07/18/15–I went back to this location because I was craving comfort food and this is the spot for that. I remembered back to when I first went and remembered the woman who runs the joint. She did not smile much and was not overly enthusiastic. Or so I thought. This last visit, she did not smile all that much either, but I come to find, although not all that cheery, provides great service and wants you to enjoy your food and drink. She had us try a few things to consider for future visits and chatted with us. However, if cheery is what you crave, there is a gentleman that works at this location as well and is a hell of a nice guy. He is very content to converse.Mostly I wanted to update this to say, do not be turned off by the first interaction like I did. Not everyone is chipper and chatty. What matters is they serve tasty food, good beer, great service, and care about it.
A winner for sure!. This place is so awesome! My hubby and I decided to be brave and try somewhere new to us, and boy were we glad we did! They are located in the cutest little spot on the lower level of the Reed Opera House. He had their new Irish Dip sandwich w/ fried cabbage and I had the Dublin Coddle – wow! Absolutely delicious. And what gracious hosts – we so enjoyed chatting with them. We will definitely be back!!
First time I ate here. Owner and waiter both attentive and gracious. Don’t fill up on the soda bread and butter they bring out first. Ordered the Sausage Rolls. Sausages were authentic, Irish, imported. Wrapped & baked in Sisters own dough. Served 2 sausages on a plate with gravy or mustard sauce on the side. Chose the gravy to try, but the sausages were great on their own. Tasty, well-prepared very, filling. Had to take one home to have later. Then decided not to leave before trying dessert: Irish Cream Bundt Cake. Get it if they have it: very good.(So wait…how full was I really?) Might try the whiskey Bundt cake next time. Dry food on 2 knives at my table. Need to inspect silverware better when setting tables. Otherwise–location, decor, and ambiance all quite appropriate for a bistro. I’ll try them again.10 Apr, 2015Irish Cream Bundt Cake. Moist sweet rich delicious
Great food!. Sums down to awesome shepards pie, almost as good sausage rolls, good irish sodas, and fantastic bread. Very nice people too!I left fat and happy. ^_^
Cute little cafe. Just visited tonight had tried a couple of times before but it had been packed out, well not hard with 5 tables or so!But we went after 8 pm ( closes at 9) and managed to get a table. They were out of 3 of the small menu items..but we got something we both enjoyed.Liked the atmosphere and the owner is wonderful. Will be back hopefully to get some of the corned beef and cabbage!
