A light and early lunch made…… The idea of their five pieces for $4.49 seem like a good opportunity for a late afternoon snack. I had pieces with Salmon, Shrimp, Avocado, Tuna and Eel. Four of the five were excellent. The Tuna one, not so much. For the money, this place is hard to beat. Unlike some of the conveyor belt places, their turn over is huge, so nothing sits around very long.26 Mar, 2012After my misadventure at Fresh & Natural…… I really needed something to top off my tank. One would not expect much from food court Sushi, but all three of my experiences here belie that misconception.Today I had three delectable pieces; Ebi (Shrimp), Ikura (Salmon Roe) and Unagi (Grilled Eel). All were fresh and good. The counter people here are always cheerful, friendly and accommodating. Sushi Ya Sushi is a pleasant food court surprise!21 Oct, 2011Hit their 5 for $4.49 deal…… For a snack this afternoon. I had a California Roll, Spicy Salmon Roll, Tuna in Rice and Seaweed, Regular Salmon Roll and another Seaweed Wrapped Rice-Fish & Avocado thingy. Soy Sauce was provided, in a cup, for dipping as well as Ginger and Wasabi. They turn their Sushi over at a rapid pace so, although it’s pre-prepared, nothing sits around very long. After a light lunch earlier, this little late afternoon nibble hit the spot!02 Mar, 2011Pleasant surprise!. I have to say, most of the food court places I’ve tried in Salem’s struggling downtown mall, have met my low expectations. I’ve been aware of Sushi Ya Sushi for a while and was ambivalent about trying the place. Much to my surprise, it was really pretty good. Better still, it was cheap. Cheap and Good is one of my favorite word combinations! I had two of their Nigiri options: Ama Ebi (raw shrimp and rice) and Unagi (Freshwater Eel and rice) for $139 each. I also had their 5 for $3.99 assorted (you-pick-’em) rolls. Their Wasabi was good and hyper-strong and the Ginger was fresh. For less than seven dollars, I had all I needed to eat.I almost passed on this place in the mistaken assumption that it would be no better than its food court neighbors. Guess there’s some truth to what they say about the word Assume!
