This place serves gold old comfort food. The stuff that you see on television and wonder why places like Australia have not made it fashionable. The service here was extremely friendly as well. I loved how it wasn’t pretentious and the place smelt of warm food as soon as you stepped in from the coldness of Oregon. The serving sizes were ridiculous. We failed to finish off the dishes and had enough to take some away for later. I love the wide range of tabasco sauces… being a sauce lover and all… and all the flavours of their dishes just made me smile in delight. I definitely recommend a visit here if you’re in the area. We even had a short chat with the workers here and they were more than happy to help us take some happy snaps of us in the restaurant despite having quite a few customers in. The price was quite fair for what you got…. and if I was ever back in the area I’d definitely drop back in.
Bummin about Whites. White’s over the years has been one of my favorite breakfast joints when I have been down south in Salem. But unfortunately, that is no more. The last 4 or 5 times I’ve gone there, it has been largely disappointing. From the inconsistency of the food, the coffee that used to be delicious but now is blah, the increased prices, and increasingly surly wait staff, I have said my final goodbyes to White’s and will now go mourn this loss.
Enjoyed it. To be honest, the food was the quality you’d get at a Denny’s or the like, but the waitress I had was friendly and kept my glass full. I ended up splitting a meal with the girlfriend because the quantities are large. Don’t expect fine cuisine, but if you’re in need of breakfast, an okay spot.
I love White’s! Best chicken fried steak and biscuits & gravy. The waitresses are always prompt and friendly (: It’s usually super busy on Sundays, so I’d recommend going on a weekday.
Decade in, decade out, with a few changes of ownership here and there, White’s provides the one thing I can’t get anywhere else: the Big Mess. It’s the primary reason I eat there! Potatoes, ham, bacon, sausage, tomatoes, peppers and onions all perfectly topped with country gravy and two eggs (any way). One of these easily feeds two, or gives you leftovers that are still awesome later. Katie is my favorite server. It’s nice when a place you don’t eat but a couple of times a year remembers you. Skip the toast, though…get the biscuit. You’ll be glad!
Run Down and Clueless. Well established doesn’t have to mean broken down booths with collapsed springs. I ordered a Monte Cristo. What I received was essentially a sandwich. Trying to explain to the waitress what a Monte Cristo was suppose to be only made her eyes glaze over. Other orders were correct but the quality was poorly prepared. Maybe it’s time to turn out the lights.
Good for what it is.
