Crazy delicious, great selection. Perhaps a few more vegetarian selections would be nice. Overall it’s an awesome lunch spot. I’ve tried sandwiches, soups and their Pho which was terrific.
My wife and I made our first trip to Wild Pear and enjoyed an excellent lunch. She ordered the special, a prawn/pasta dish that featured an excellent white sauce. I selected the Lobster & Seafood Melt, toasted focaccia bread with dill havarti cheese, tomatoes, red onion & a creamy dill dressing. Both items were excellent. Our server was knowledgeable and professional and our waiting time was fine. The space itself is really fun: the restaurant is located in a historic 135-year old building with an awe-inspiring artistic tin ceiling that kept me peering up at it as we waited. We’ll definitely return.
While I will acknowledge every restaurant will have their good days and bad, I must give credit where credit is due. I arrived at 5:45pm and was seated immediately. The menu is vast and impressive. Much attention has been given to flavor combinations, where crunch, softness, sweet, savory and all the other flavor-words someone might think up were well addressed. I ordered the soupand half wild pear salad while the cakes beckoned. The coconut curry withbutternut squash was phenomenal. It was well seasoned and decorated with a dollop of cream and herbs. The wild pear salad was justified in carrying the name of the restaurant. The pears were julienned which made for well proportioned bites, the candied pecans were chopped small and mixed in well. This salad was worth the trip from PDXI will make an effort to return as I am anxious to try many of the items I could not consume on this trip.I came back many months later and had a quadrup-pully delicious piece of Guinness Cake. Now I am broken. I will never appreciate another piece of cake again. SERIOUSLY. Go ahead, I dare you.
Poor service makes the food taste bad!. I have been here twice and have felt very unwelcome. The first time I let slide the fact that the person seating us was rude and looked at my daughter as if she was the plague(she was one at the time). The food was good so I decided to give it another try. The same thing happened when I walked in so I left! Never going here again and will tell others how rude the employees of this place are.
Still love it!. This place has been wonderful since its days of pre-cooked, deli-style counter service. Best soup, quiche and salad in town, I think. We had ladies’ luncheon there today, arriving about 11:30am which is when we take lunch and the best time to find parking downtown. We shared the white truffle oil sweet potato fries with mustard aioli and my entree was the chicken salad on mixed greens. Everything was delicious and either hot or cold where it should be. Service was prompt even though they were very busy. Server was polite and efficient. Everyone who came in was seated promptly while we were there.
I have dined here off and on sincetheir downtown location had opened. Service was never fab, but food was always noticeably enjoyable. It’s obvious they make all their items from scratch, and have a passion for what they are doing. Always have a great soup selection and are sure to offer good dietary options, anduodate menu seasonly to insure freshness. The ambiance is very European, noisy and tight fit, but only us Americans would be snooty about sharing a table. I will definetly continue my visits, as I love to bring my out of town guests here!
A notch above the rest in downtown Salem. Its hard to pass this place by anytime and not decide thats the place to eat. The staff is wonderful, sometimes its just me, sometimes its my wife and I, or friends, or even when we bring our two year old in, it doesn’t matter as we always get treated well and thats the top thing to look for in a restaurant. The food is always above the norm as well, even though I don’t venture far from a standard cup of one of their wonderful soups and sandwiches, they are always top notch. There’s a good selection of beer and wine or simply coffee as well. Downtown Salem is unique in that there are not so many places to go for a good daytime or late afternoon meal, but this place is great. Also, never leave without taking a look at the dessert selection as it is amazing!
