Yikes. What was that?. I was told that Lupitas was the place to go for Mexican food in Woodburn.I am pretty easy going about food but my wife on the other hand has lots of food OCDs.Anyhow, my wife and I went there about a year ago and ended up leaving because she didn’t like the look or the smell of the place. last Saturday we were in Woodburn and I talked her into going there for lunch and she agreed. When we walked in, I was certain that she was going to do a replay and want to leave but for some reason she didn’t. The place was a mess and clearly needs a deep cleaning and remodeling. It reminded me of restaurants I have been to in rural areas of Mexico. I ordered Chile Verde and my wife ordered two bean tacos. The chile verde was thin pieces of beef that were grissly and tough. chile verde is supposed to be made with pork and very tender. The flavor of the sauce it was simmered in was very good. It had a jalapeno kick which I love.My wife basically closed her eyes, held her nose said a prayer and ate her bean tacos. She reports that they were flavorless and said if I intend to ever go there again, I will be by myself or with somebody else.

Thanks Reliable Rob………. For bringing this great Mexican place to my attention. SWMBO and I made the drive to Woodburn to give Lupita’s a try. It’s right on Front Street a few doors down from Luis’s Taqueria which was recently immortalized by a visit by the current and hopefully temporary occupant of the White House. Its south wall has a host of comfortable horseshoe booths which face an open dining area with free-standing tables and chairs. It looked like an order-at-the-counter place, but our server indicated that menus had already been placed at the table where I’d parked my hat.The young lady brought a basket of house-made Chips and a bowl of thin but tasty Salsa.Carol ordered a three Taco Combo plate. She mixed one each of Tripe, Lengua and Cabeza Meats. It came with Refried Beans and Rice which was interspersed with Carrots and chopped Chilies. ($6.50) She washed it all down with a Corona (Mexican Beer). I had their Mole Verde; a whole Chicken Hind Quarter submersed in a zesty Green Mole served with Beans and Rice. ($8.50) I requested and was given a couple of hot Four Tortillas which I’m pretty sure were hecho a mano. I had my usual beverage, a flagon of good local Dihydrogen Monoxide in both liquid and solid forms. We thought it was a good two person fifteen buck lunch. (Pre Beer {$3} and tip {$4}) We recommend it and will be back.
Good food but…. Not the cleanest place. Very much in line with the taqerias I enjoyed in central Mexico. Not dangerous just different standards than most of us gringos are used to. The food is GREAT, highly recommend the made daily chichirones and carnitas!
