Thanks to Reliable Rob…. For, yet another, great tip!I drove to Voget’s, in Hubbard, today for my semi-annual Meat purchase, so I was a couple of blocks away from Mariscos Morales. They’ve got a big Seafood menu in addition to the staple items most Mexican places purvey. I went for the Langostinos al Moho de Ajo ($15); Deep Fried Langostinos marinated with Garlic Sauce served with Beans, Rice and a nice Salad of Cucumbers, Onion, Tomato, Lettuce and Orange and Lime slices. The usual precursors of Chips and Salsa were provided. The Salsa was unique in my experience. It looked a little muddy. I tried it gingerly. Its flavor erupted in my mouth. It had a fire that was cumulative and was delicious. Soon the bowl was empty and I was wiping my brow with a smile. Four hot Flower Tortillas came with the meal.Langostinos look much like a large Shrimp or claw-less Crayfish, but are biologically more closely related to the Crab family. The Meat is not unlike Lobster and is billed as Squat Lobster or Langostino Lobster on some menus. Or so I’m told. Whatever they are, they’re wonderful. I didn’t count them but there was a pile of them on my huge platter. The place was neat and clean and Maria, my server, did a first rate job. They’ve got a number of interesting Oyster dishes that beg further study and a Birria Burrito for $5 that I must also get to eventually.

Want to try other items… mostly ok. First, note that this establishment is in Hubbard, OR. The street address has been corrected. I met an old friend here for lunch as we decided to take a different direction on our path to Mexican food nirvana. Seafood! We started with a Vuelve a la vida (back to life) cocktail. Chock full of shrimp, octopus, oysters and fake crab… surimi. While the cocktail itself was really good the fake crab was a real disappointment. The picture showed dungeness legs…. no such present. And for $16 I believe there should have been real crab or simply skip it and add more of what you do have… but not fake crab legs… ick. That said, the cocktail was large, nicely loaded, very citrus-y with pronounced fresh lemon and lime. They load the cocktail with chopped celery, scallion, cucumber and tomato.Next up our server (Mrs. Owner?) brought us a nice portion of their excellent ceviche.. no charge. This ceviche is a little different than what I have usually experienced as it is finely chopped. Loaded with the same veg as the cocktail plus a little fresh jalapeno and a good deal of cilantro. It was absolutely excellent having a distinct lime overtone. My lunch was Camarones Coritas, deep fried shell on prawns seasoned with house salsa, onions, tomatoes, and cilantro. The prawns were LARGE and absolutely outstanding. My partner in dining crime had a garlic camarones burrito which was apparently excellent… I wouldnt know since my lustful looks and puppy dog eyes failed to produce an offer of a sample… some people…I look forward to returning to try the langostines.. this is not cheap food but it is obviously very fresh and there is a lot of it! I was also very impressed with the cleanliness of the place. There was ZERO smell of old seafood, it was really top notch.
