Variations on a theme…. Today’s most excellent lunch was two lengua tacos and a carne asada tostada… the lengua was tender as your mother’s heart and tasted like long slow cooked roast beef. Simply excellent. Why more gringo’s don’t recognize this amazing treat is beyond me. It’s beef people. The carne asada tostada was outstanding as usual… combined with a huge horchata for a grand total of $6.50 represents an amazing value meal!Try this place… it’s amazing in the consistency of excellence in a food truck!08 Sep, 2012Wonderful flavors!. This is my go to taco truck in Woodburn. It is pretty much a permanent location in the parking lot of La Linda’s Furniture store. East side of 99E, just south of Young St.The food…. it is a cut above. I HIGHLY recommend the tostada’s. For $3 you get a meal sized tostada made from the meat of your choice, a shmear of fijoles, piled with lettuce, tomatoes, fresh onions and avocado. Drizzled with creama these things rock my taste buds. The carne asada is chopped and grilled and to be sure flavorful. You will invariably get a few pieces of gristle since it is undoubtedly thinly sliced round or chuck. But oh my is it good. The lengua is just what you would expect to be served at a Mexicali family meal. Slow cooked until tender and shredded fine. Outstanding. The carnitas are a perfect example of porky goodness. Flavorful, moist and fatty. Rich beyond words. It would make your arteries scream for mercy if you ate it daily but as an occasional indulgence… it’s tops. The El Pastor is redolent of cumino and chilies. Chewy and tender bits mixed together to create a spicy meaty treat. Now for the best and worst news… the Chilies Relleno’s are some of the best around. Unfortunately you have to be under the influence of serious positive karma to get them. It appears that they are most available weekends. It’s worth asking for but don’t be surprised if she doesn’t have them on any given day. But do ask because they are wonderful examples of the item. I have had pasilla and poblanos served. She obviously buys what is fresh and available. Last and by no means least, the dollar tacos are great examples of the simple handmade tortilla filled with meat, raw onion and cilantro. The trick here is to not miss the compartment just to the right of the order/pickup window. It contains the beautiful homemade sauces/salsas and best of all, a large bucket of grilled onions and jalapenos. Load your taco with these and you have something well beyond the typical. The frijoles are delicious, be sure to ask for a few chips for dipping. The rice is the only item I would forego in favor of additional frijoles!Try Tacos Vallarta and tell me I’m wrong! I dare ya!
