A Recipe of Wow!. If you are a person that can enjoy; great service, better food, and a communal or private dining experience, Donato’s in Fox Chapel is your destination. So, the recipe Chef Donato has created is genius you take equal parts customer service and food incorporate your favorite drink, add professional conversation with just a touch of live music and garnish it with an open kitchen coupled with a beautiful dining area you come up with: Wow! A perfect mixture of a true professional hospitality experience.
Stay away unless you like $30 salads!!!!. I never write reviews on restaurants, but had to do this. I was so outraged by the pricing at Donato’s. PLEASE BE WARNED. The environment in the restaurant is very lovely, though the service was somewhat slow. The unbelievable thing is that I ordered a $10 salad. The menu states that you can add a topping such as chicken, steak, or shrimp. There was no price shown for these additional items. To my horror, the bill came in at $30. I was charged $16.00 for a steak topping on my salad. When I asked for the price to be double-checked, I was told that the pricing was correct and that nothing could be done. $30 for a salad! I will never, ever visit this restaurant again. Completely outrageous to charge this kind of money and not warn your customers about the pricing. Also, there was no effort by the staff to offer me any kind of compensation. Stay away, please. This is not worth your time.

A $151 huge let down. My husband and I went the Sunday after Valentines Day. The atmosphere was comfortable and the gentleman who first approached our table was very nice, as he presented us with tasty breads, olives and a toasted bit of bread with a dollop of potato salad. And then in all went downhill. The waitress was blander than the food, and that was a hard thing to accomplish. From the meatball appetizer that tasted more of breadcrumbs, to the bland heirloom salad chopped too fine that you could not use a fork, to the bland HUGE veal parmesan and even blander filet mignon oscar – it was very disappointing. It’s as if they hoped the humongous portions, which could serve a family of four, was to compensate for the lack of flavor. The really should have a selection of seasonings on each table. I ended the meal with a sorbet, which are used to cleanse the pallet. Instead a got a burst of lemon that made me pucker. Very sad experience. I dont mind paying for excellent food, but I have to admit, i would have been happier at Applebee’s. Oh, and check your receipt. What is on the menu is not what they charge you.
AWESOME. I have been to Donato’s for a few appetizers and drinks at the bar, to intimate dinner of two, and a large family affair in the private room. In all situations I have been pleased with the wonderful service and the food. Their wine selection is unique as well as their bartenders with their costume drinks. If you happen to get there early, ask for their lobster tail that is not on the menu. It is absolutely delicious.
We tried Donatos for the first time a few months ago and we lived it! Our server was super nice and very knowledgeable about the food and specials! She brought us complimentary meatballs since it was our first time dining there! I got the crab stuffed lobster, which was one of the specials that night. The lobster was cooked perfectly! We are going back to celebrate my husbands birthday!
