The wife and i have eaten here off and on for years. A while back we began to black list them for sub par food. For some reason we decided to try again and were very pleased. It seems like they made some solid menu changes. Wife had shrimp roll that she said reminded her of new england. I got the lamb burger and cleaned my plate. Perhaps they are back on track.
Overpriced & Bad. This place is not worth the money. The atmosphere is very nice but the food that was served was horrible. I had the big john burger with fries and coleslaw. First of all it was a pleasant surprise to see that the bottom of my bun was completly soggy from the coleslaw that was placed next to it. I ordered the burger done medium while that was correct the outside of my burger was charred and tasted horrible. I now understand why it is called whispers. That is what we did at the table, whispered about how terrible the food was!!! Seriously this place should be avoided our bill came to $300.00 for six people. Burger King would have been better and only around $50.00.
Enough data. Ok, I’ve now eaten here at least 4 times in the past year, and I’ve not changed my stance one iota. Despite the very nice atmosphere and attentiveness of the staff, I am just underwhelmed at the quality of the food. And it’s not the quality of the ingredients – they seem fresh and well chosen. But the preparation just does nothing for my taste buds. How a pub like this cannot have a good burger is beyond my comprehension. It looks great, but tastes like an ashtray. I’m not kidding. Obviously, the burgers are cooked over an open flame, but the taste is more like the meat was dropped into ashes. It’s a bitter, foul taste that I cannot imagine anyone enjoying. And it’s not like I’m ordering the sandwich well-done , as I order it medium. And the center of the burger is pink, as expected. And sufficiently juicy. But when this meat sits between the two charred sides, it loses any appeal it might have had. I’m sorry, but for $11, this is not good at all.30 Mar, 2011In agreement with previous review. While I do enjoy the Hartwood very much, I am almost always underwhelmed by the pub portion of this establishment. It’s a great setting and atmosphere – and I think that’s what mostly draws the crowds. But the food is very average. For that reason, I’ve not rated the restaurant as a like or dislike. But there’s no comparison to the bar at the Pines Tavern.
Going Downhill. Used to greatly enjoy coming here with the family, nice atmosphere and reasonably good food once we knew what to order. Last few visits have been increasingly dissappointing and tonight the food was actually cold when it reached us. Nobody seemed to mind about that and several of our go-to menu items just don’t taste as good any more because they have changed how they make them. Really Dissappointing, this used to be a great place.
My wife and I decided to try the Gastropub, Whispers after hearing how great the food is. Although the atmosphere is great, we were very disappointed with our meals. My wife’s food was just average, (she had a salad) and mine tasted great, but my portion was a joke! I ordered the mac and cheese with Chorizo sausage and I honestly thought they brought me the child’s portion by mistake! Service was ok, but my wife and I both agreed that a server should alert you to portion size whether small or large. Even after telling the server, she just smiled and shrugged her shoulders. We both left hungry and disappointed.
Nice atmosphere, but I don’t understand all the fuss. The atmosphere here is very nice, as is the large patio with fireplace. However, I can’t for the life of me understand what all the fuss is about when it comes to the food. I’ve eaten both the pub food and the restaurant food and have failed to be impressed. Don’t get me wrong, it is by no means bad, but I don’t understand why the parking lot is ALWAYS packed. For the price of the restaurant dishes here, I expect a lot more.
