Amazing Italian food! Incredibly authentic with a wood pizza oven in the main space and wine bar in the back. They’re stingy with the olive oil.
Il Pizzaiolo was very tasty but a bit expensive for my taste. I had the cappelletti which I’ve never had anywhere before. It was delicious, but pricy in my opinion.
Overall the food was really good. Our table had the gnocchi, marguerita pizza and funghi pizza. Funghi pizza was pretty greasy but good. Our server was great! Atmosphere was really loud unfortunately. Only other bummer was we were told to wait 15 minutes for our table even though we had made reservations and were on time!
Holy smokes! SUCH A GREAT PLACE. Wine bar is a hidden gem, we went their on our anniversary 2 years ago and I cannot stop going back now, may it be a quick lunch or taking friends/family out for dinner. This place is absolutely amazing. Great pizza, great staff. They make it feel like home. I am a huge fan of anything arugula, so go ahead and pile it on my pizza : ) I HAVE TOLD EVERYONE ABOUT THIS PLACE, I cannot shut up about it. Keep it up!
We had an early dinner at Il Pizzaiolo on Washington Road. B. & I sharedParmagiana melanzane and Pappardelle alla Funghi. Extraordinarily delicious. Everything, even the bread and olive oil, was seasoned perfectly. No salt & pepper on the tables; it was unnecessary! For dessert, we shared the only Tiramisu that has lived up to my memory of the one I had on my birthday in SF, with DS (& BB?), JK & his beau, PM, J, and N. The ultimate. Our server was a lovely, hard-working nursing student named Alicia. She usually works Sunday and Friday evenings, and Tuesday daytime. She told us to ask for her when we return, which we definite will!I’d love to rate this place a big fat five. The food definitely deserved it. However, I have two suggestions: First, a glass of wine should be reasonably priced. $9 is not reasonable. Go check out some of the wines at Trader Joe’s and Costco. They have excellent wines that won’t cost you or customers so much to enjoy with a meal. Second, find a way to set up tables so that the noise isn’t deafening. When I turned to request that two staff members proceed a little more quietly, I was told they were setting up for later patrons. I appreciate that necessity. However the floor is some sort of stone, and the sound of the chairs and tables being dragged and sometimes dropped into place was interfering with the conversation taking place at my table, just a foot away. It really took away from the pleasure of the amazing food.
Neapolitan pizza and pasta at its finest. This isn’t your typical pizza shop. The atmosphere and service are superb, and the wood oven baked pies authentic. To start, the fresh baked bread and oil is very tasty. We split the Pappardelle Ai Funghi pasta and a calzone. The calzone isn’t a humongous stuffed pizza folded in half. It’s much smaller, but the high quality ingredients make up for the size. The sauce, the cheese, the prosciutto – all so flavorful. Our pasta was loaded with wild mushrooms, a real treat. And the cream sauce was delicate and potently flavored. The pasta was cooked al dente. The only real lacking quality of the dish was the small amount of pancetta. Il Pizzaiolo is a unique and outstanding Italian restaurant. They only lose a point for the menu not changing much over the years and the lack of pancetta on my pasta during this recent visit. Not a big deal. I’ll certainly return! 08/28/15
Stopped in without reservations. It gets very loud at dinner and the tables are very close. The food and service are excellent which makes up for the high noise level
