Poor service, mediocre food. After hearing some friends tell me how great this place is, I was excited to see what the rage was all about. My first impression when I walked in wasn’t anything particular, small shop, clean, and it left me thinking that this place probably had some great pizza to get all the great reviews. My friends and I ordered a single large cheese pizza, none of us were particular hungry so it was decided that was all we were gonna get. I don’t remember the exact price but I recall it being fairly high for what we got, and once the woman (who honestly seemed like she couldn’t care less about our order, or anyone’s else’s for that matter) told us that it would be an hour wait on a not-so-busy day, I started speculating if this place was worth it or not. After sitting around and watching maybe 3-4 people come in and get orders no bigger than 2 large pizzas, we finally got what we came for. I’m no chef, I can barely melt velveeta and salsa to make queso, but I can sure as he’ll make better looking food than what was placed in front of us. I never judge food based on looks, but this pizza legitimately looked like white bread with melted Great ValueTM Swiss on it. After everyone grabbed their pieces and 74% of the cheese on everybody’s slices fell off, I took my first bite. Now I’ll start with the crust, it tasted like stale and burnt white bread, it was thin and was completely unremarkable. The cheese tasted like I thought it was going to, nothing. I can try to remember exactly what it tastes like, but nothing comes to mind. I would try to mention the sauce if it was actually there on the pizza. At this point I was baffled that this place was so popular. Service: 2/10, Food: 6/10, Overall: 0/10 would not visit again. Messiness, I don’t question why you exist, only why you are so popular.
Great Pizza. The food is awesome and the service is great! They treat me well every time I go in, and I heard Clint Hurdle is a frequent at this pizza place so that has to tell you something!
Good food – bad service. Food is decent and price is decent, but they tell you and hour for a pizza, then when you get there they tell you another 25 minutes. Then the dont seem to care, poor service, no care, no apology, nothing…Not the first time this has happened. Too many other choices to put up with this.
Major Disappointment. After reading all of the positive reviews, I am wondering if I was even in the same restaurant. I went in and ordered a large with sausage and mushrooms. I was told that it would be an hour so I left and returned. The pizza crust was soft with the consistency of semi dried white bread. The sauce was completely tasteless but the biggest surprise was the cheese. It was sparce and barely there. The sausage was crumbled and was primarily tasteless and had the consistency of sawdust, the mushrooms were chopped and blackened so much that I thought at first that they were olives. The second piece that I ate was definitely forced but finally had to relent and do what I have never done in my life….throw out the pizza. Was it a value? Sort of. It was economical but when you toss more than half of it out, that concept vanishes. Family who live within a half mile of Messinas travel to Squirrel Hill for their pizza. I now know why.
Messinas Rocks!. Our favorite place … From pizza to calzones the food is fresh, hot and affordable… Can’t go wrong with that combination!!!!
