The old grey mare…. Ain’t what she used to be….bummer. haven’t been here for awhile. took family out for wifies BDay. food was just OK but should be A LOT better at these prices. wife has been ordering same entre for 30 years and she was a bit disappointed. good: my entree, fried zucchini and angel hair pasta. bad: the calimari was average & didn’t have any seasoning. ugly: the rapini (which I consider myself an aficionado) was terrible. not sure what the problem was but there wasn’t the bitterness that I expected plus the garlic or something seemed rancid or old. did I mention there wasn’t any hint of red pepper flakes? service was average. final outcome – no decision for like or dislike. could be our last visit with all the wonderful new options in Pittsburgh dining.
Terrible. I visited Ricos News Years eve (2013) and was included in a party of 13.Ordered a $45 dollar filet.Worse prepared piece of meat I have ever tasted. I have been to weddings that had delivered better quality than this dried-out, tough piece of leather.Waitress was in a big hurry and never asked about the quality of the meal until we were completely finished. When told of the poor quality, the waitress became indignant and argumentative. The waitress had two large groups and obviously could not handle her duties.I advise anyone not to consider visiting Ricos with a crowd. If you cant keep it small, you may be overlooked with both service and quality.I will mark this up to an expensive lesson learned and will avoid this restaurant in the future.
Great food and service. We have been coming here for years, but it is out of the way for us and we forget about it because we live in monroeville. But after coming here from dinner I believe it is one of the best places for food and service. We found as always the staff greeted us like these were there every week. Food was great I had the spots and my wife had the broiled shrimp. Both hot and fresh with seasoned bread crumbs. We will be back more often
Disappointed. My husband and I have tradtionally gone to Rico’s for lunch for his birthday which is in June. Normally we are in Florida for my birthday (March) but this year we happened to be in Pittsburgh so off we went. We have been fans of Rico’s for all 20 years of our marriage. It has always been classic in the quality of the food, service, and ambience, but this time things just seemed a little off. On this particular day there was a peculiar odor as we entered the restaurant, somewhat of a moldy aroma, and the decor, which has always been a highlignt, appeared dated, even lackluster than in years past. The menu was a huge disappointment, a vast abbreviation of past luncheon menus. We knew from experience that if we wanted to order something not on the menu, Rico would have seen to it without hesitation, but on this day we hesitated, a bit perplexed by what we were experiencing. As always, the service was magnificient, and the restaurant was quite busy. Overall it simply disappointed us as it was not the same experience as we have had in the past. TImes are tough, we understand that. Even still, Rico knows that he is better than what we saw on my birthday.
Going downhill fast. I was a regular at Rico’s for art feast 10-12 yrs. I would go for lunch , cocktailss at 5:30 0r so, and frequent dinners, The bartenders were very good and attentive, waiters and waitresses very good an knowledgable. But in the past3-4 yrs this place has lost its regulars, and the food which once was very good and reasonable has gone downhill. The younger son has a lousy personality and I personally know people he has driven away.by his treatment odf good clients. i’m sure this business has fallen off a lot. Ypou can go there now any Fri Sat without a reservation . I was there once for a Christmas Party several years ago and the restaurant was closed due to a gas line problem. Did they notify reservatio customersNO Did they offer any compensation NO People came d
essed and some with presents , allowed to sit at the bar and order drinks but were told later the kitchen was closed.I will try tit again this week but I’m not optimistic. RICO YOU NEED TO WiE UP.
Tried and true. Steady, dependable, traditional are just some of the words that come to mind when thinking of Rico’s. From the moment you pull the car up to the valet it is apparent that they have done it this way since 1979. The decor’ might be dated, but food and service are why you’re here and you will not be disappointed. My choice of e’ntree was the broiled seafood alla Rico. Scallops, scrod and shrimp topped with garlic bread crumbs. All three were cooked to perfection. My only dissappointment came when I discovered that the Caesar salad is not offered in individual servings, but is only available prepared tableside for two. I had an expertly prepared dinner served by a professional and knowledgeable staff in surroundings that prompted me to peek around every corner looking for Frank Sinatra. All of this makes me happy.
Very nice!!!. You really cannot go wrong here! very nice people, owners son is great, helps out all the neighbors too when the snow is coming down fast on the hill.if you go, just dont bring your loud boisterous inlaws that like to shout alot over the table… ha ha
