Really friendly host at the front and good food. Typical spice level is 1 to 10, but this place lets you take the heat up even higher. I think the host mentioned 50. Been meaning to go back but haven’t made it out that way again.
I stopped in today for lunch, promptly at 11:00am, and found the door locked. Turns out, according to the sign on the door, that they do not open until 3:00, so that was very disappointing. Most likely this was the last chance I will give them, since I avoid this area during the evening rush hour, unless possibly if I’m in the area on a Friday (they are open for lunch Fri., Sat., and Sun. according to the sign), and just happen to remember them, since you cannot see the place from the main street.
I discovered this spot after reading a review in the City Paper – who knew it was located so close to home! It is on a side street across from Trader Joes, so it is not a place you would see traveling down Rt. 19. I decided to try it for takeout and called in my order. A pleasant young man took my order, told me it would be ready to pick up in 10 minutes, and mentioned they offer a 10% discount if you pay with cash. I ordered the Larb Chicken based on the review I read which said it was excellent. There are a few parking spots out front. I was greeted with a big smile when I told the young man at the register that I was the Larb Chicken Lady. There looked to me about 10 places to sit inside, so imagine they do a lot of takeout. I asked how long they had been open, and he said a year! My loss that I did not discover them sooner. I paid in cash ($11.50 with 10% discount) and headed home to enjoy my lunch…A very nice portion of ground chicken with some iceberg lettuce tucked on the side. Enough for 2 for lunch I think. On top I could see fresh mint and springs of Thai basil. It was delicious! Just enough heat and spice and somewhat addicting! I had it with a tall glass of ice tea to tame the heat. I intend to save half for my husband to try tonight but I have a feeling I may need to sample more later today. I grabbed a couple of menus on the way out – can’t wait to try several of their dishes!
