A very good Monday night buffet.. After having a poor meal at the India Garden, my wife and I decided to take a meal at the Taj Mahal, despite its distance from where we were staying. One curiosity is that besides offering a lunch buffet, this restaurant provides a dinner one on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. So on an evening that threatened rain after a pleasant spring day, we journeyed northwest to the restaurant. In nearly all respects, we were pleased. The buffet was broad, with a fine sampling of Indo-Pakistani cuisine. Spicing was strong and distinctive–except for the tandoor which, curiously enough, had only a slight smoky flavor. The goat was for once fall-off-the-bone tender, without being entirely bones, and the baigan burta showed far more of the eggplant than is usually the case. The butter chicken was more flavorful than in many restaurants we’ve tried, where cream apparently takes the place of spices. (The dish is supposed to be mild and creamy, but not devoid of flavor.) There was an interesting cabbage dish we haven’t encountered before; and once again, it impressed us by tasting like nothing else on the buffet. The place was clean, and moderately crowded when we arrived, largely with locals who, if appearances weren’t deceiving, clearly knew one another. The owner, a middle-aged woman, moved repeatedly through the tables–but she only stopped or even focused on anybody who was a regular. We got a quick smile in passing. I had to go up to the front and ask to speak with her, in order to thank her for a fine buffet, pointing out that we make Indian entrees and appetizers at home, and enjoy trying both buffets and individual dishes on the road. That little bit–a shade too much like steakhouses, where only repeat customers matter–is the only thing I can think to suggest as an area for improvement. And, well, a bit of cinnamon in the gulab jamun. But that’s a matter of individual taste.Would we return? If we are in the area again, definitely. Whether our thanks are noticed by the owner or not, the quality of the meal deserves thanks, indeed.

Big size at low price with excellent quality. I had take out for party at my house. Quantity was huge in big black containers as compared to any other Indian restaurants. We had goat curry which was tender and had over 10 pieces. Koftas in malai kofta were huge and filled with dry fruits. Over 15 cubes of paneer in paneer makhani. Naan bread was huge. Prices were 20 % less and quantity was 20% more with authentic Indian good. I love it.18 Feb, 2015EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLENT. I am from LA and am here on a Project work at Westinghouse . My Family visted me past weekent and I took him for Buffet at Taj Mahal ( I dont prefer Buffet , but Kids are very Picky, so Buffet is best for them). When we saw their Buffet , I almost decided to go back as they had HUGE variety of over 70 Items , Vegetarian/Meat/Rice/Apetizers/Desserts and I thought the Buffet would have cost atleast $20 p.p and I was in no mood to spend $80 for a family of 4.To my surprise , Buffet was only $11 p.p and they had Huge Huge variety and looked Fresh .The lady was very cooperative in getting us Hot Naan on table for Kids .I havent seen BIG Gulabjamuns in any of the Indian Buffet . They had Seafood,Goat,Lamb Kababs, and many many other really expensive items in Buffet . Service was a little slow , but thats okay in Buffet as long as Food is filled in trays and is Hot and fresh . Place was packed and that means food is fresh . Only thing I didnt like was that we have to go to register to pay . I give 10 stars out of 5 🙂

Wonderful buffet!. I was recently in town visiting family and we stopped by the Taj Mahal for dinner. We all got the buffet. It was delicious! The food was well seasoned and flavorful and there were a lot of vegetarian options that me and my kids could eat. The staff was also very friendly and were very accommodating of my young kids. My mother commented that she would like to come back once a month because she enjoyed it so much!

Best place I’ve ever eaten!. Absolutely the best place I have ever eaten. Amazing selection with over 200 items on their menu. Excellent service, excellent tasting food they ask spicy level 0 to 10 which works very nice. It is a clean place and again the best place I have ever eaten will be back every time I am in Pittsburgh and may even drive the 1.5hrs just to eat there a few times.

Great Food, Legendary Buffet. I LOVE LOVE Indian food. If ordering from the menu the food is always wonderful, interesting, and plentiful. However, the buffet is one of the great dining experiences in Pittsburgh. Not to be missed. (Be sure to fast a few days before ordering the buffet).
