My Red Hat group had our Christmas party at Twelve Oaks on Saturday, December 9, 2017. Our reservation was for 3:00 pm and we arrived at 3:10 pm. The owner came down, we had the room next to the Tavern, and welcomed us and thanked us for choosing Twelve Oaks. They had a table set up for us to put our Christmas gifts on. I want to mention that our waitress was great and very helpful. We also had a memorial service planned for the members of our group who have passed away.We ordered our beverages and they were brought down quickly. Then our orders were taken for our meals. Soups, salads and main course. It took a long time for the food to arrive, there were 10 of us. We got our soups and salads and before we were even close to being done with them, the main course arrived. Several people got the prime Rib, myself included. And one lady got their hotdogs, which are reported to be excellent. Her bun was burnt badly and had to be replaced. One of the orders of prime Rib, which was ordered med rare was over cooked, mine had a lot of gristle and tendon fiber, and by the time I trimmed it off, my meat was cold. There was a lot of fat also, but that is expected with prime rib. The waitress did ask me early on if I wished to talk to someone and I said no. Also around 4:40 pm we were told we would have to be done by 5:15, because they had another group coming in at 6 and they needed to clean the room and tables. After our meal I did asked to talk to the owner/manager about my meat. The waitress did take my plate, which I should have kept, when she told the manager that I wished to speak to her.None of this is the problem. The owner/manager came down to talk to me, but we were in the middle of our memorial service. She did interrupt the service and said that the price of the meal with the hotdogs had been reduced. Then she proceeded to say that if people are not used to eating prime Rib they might mistake fat for cartilage. (Which I found to be an insulting statement toward me). I have had prime Rib at many good restaurants and certainly know the difference between fat and cartilage and/or tendon fiber. She said she looked at my plate and it was fat, not cartilage. The ladies sitting close to me saw it knew that it was cartilage, and I said to her it was not fat, it was cartilage. Since I ordered soup as an extra on my meal, she said they would take off the cost of the soup to compensate. She said we were late in the first place and that they did have to prepare the room for the next group, but we had til 5:30 before we had to leave. It was 4:50 at this time. She said 2 and a half hours was long enough to be in the restaurant. The price reduction was nice of them to do, and we appreciate that very much. It was her tone of voice and rudeness that we objected to, and that she interrupted our Memorial service. After she left, we continued our memorial service, but everyone was upset by her words, so, it was not like it was supposed to be. We did our gift exchange and took a couple of pictures of our group by the Christmas tree and left. Some of our ladies expressed they would not be back. And, our Red Hats will not be back as a group. There are plenty of fine dining restaurants out there to choose from.I’m sorry this is not a glowing review and that it is lengthy. Our Red Hat group had been there once before and the ladies who were there that time said it was a good experience. I had been there before with a friend for my birthday and it was a good experience. On the whole, most of the food was great. The prime Rib meat was delicious after I got all the fiber trimmed off of it. Like I said before, it was the tone of voice and rude remarks that we objected too.
