Aya was previously one of the best sushi places in the area. I was hard pressed to find even one bad thing at this place before. Now after a recent visit, I am unable to offer even one praise. It has been almost 8 months since our last visit to Aya, and I will say our recent visit was our last. The sushi quality has dropped big time, coupled with the missing and broken soy sauce jars, floors being dirty and decorations being filthy. But the biggest deal breaker was the quality or lack there of. I honestly have had better sushi from Giant Grocery next door. Comments on quality:Soy sauce- They must have changed brands because what I had was 6 times more salty then any soy sauce I have ever had. Tempura- this was like eating a sponge soaking in veg oil. Imagine eating a funnel cake that was cooked in warm not hot oil. Fish- Salmon was very very oily. Tuna was very fishy, which I know sounds odd, but sushi lovers will understand.Rice- very much under cooked. The rice was borderline crunchy. It was sad to see how much this please has fallen, especially since we have gone there for the last 3 years and some times once a week months straight.24 Nov, 2012One #1 Sushi joint on both the West and East shore. Aya has an Excellent selection of special rolls, which are about 2 times the size of other local sushi joint rolls. The inside is very clean and well decorated. They also have All You Can Eat (made to order). This place is a total game changer across the board and their staff/manager is great

Great Japanese Hibachi. The restaurant is clean and spacious, with lots of room between the hibachi grills so you won’t feel claustrophobic. Decor is trendy Japanese, very nice. We had lunch on the Hibachi side, although there is a sushi side to the restaurant. It was a little cold at first (cold winter day) but they either turned up the heat or the grills warmed up the room on their own. The chef was entertaining–typical for this genre with plenty of fire and flourish. We opted for the lunch menu with the scaled down portions, and this was absolutely fine. We ended up with steak, salmon, and scallops between the three of us and it was all good. The steak was tender with no gristle. I highly recommend Aya for the food, ambience, and excellent service.

YUM!. An excellent addition to the Carlisle dining options. Sushi & sashimi are marvelous, rolls are well made & pleasantly sturdy, and the atmosphere is relaxing. BYOB is always a plus and all prices are very reasonable. The only check in the negative column was difficult communication with our server. The menus are paper so feel free to bring a pencil & circle your selections to ensure you get exactly what you want. Otherwise you might be surprised – although surely not in a bad way…We will give the hibachi side of the restaurant a try tonight, but I expect great things!

Wonderful sushi!!. TERRIFIC new Japanese hibachi & sushi place! BYOB, and the state liquor store (sake!) is in the same group of businesses. Wonderfully convenient. While we didn’t do the hibachi, our table had sashimi, sushi rolls, and udon soup. The sashimi (my order) was fantastic: extremely fresh, generous size pieces. Heaven. The rolls were great, and the udon soups were chock full of delicious stuff. The simple exterior (it’s in a strip mall just down from Giant Foods) belies a very well appointed, pleasant interior. Great ambiance. The staff were extremely helpful. I am gluten intolerant (unfortunately I’m very sensitive), and the hostess and sushi chefs took the time to understand that knives and surfaces needed to be cleaned before prepping my food in order to avoid cross contamination. (It’s terrible to be such a problem child at restaurants.) I was very grateful for their concern and for being able to have a wonderful dinner out, without getting sick!Overall, it was an excellent dining experience. We will definitely return.
