Sweet Hidden Little Gem. The patio seating at the Cabaret Theater’s Backstage Bar is the perfect spot to enjoy Katz Plaza’s Tuesday evening jazz concerts. The people watching is second to none and the music combined with the lull of the fountain transports the city sidewalk into a true urban oasis. The wine list is small, but solid, and very reasonable. The food is marginal. The cheese and fruit tray looks better than it tastes, with semi-stale pita and flavorless fruit. The smoked cheddar was tasty, as was the $4 bowl of a hearty selection of mixed nuts. As the Backstage Bar is much more a bar than a restaurant, the mediocre food can easily be over looked for the reasonable wine and ambiance. This place is a sweet, hidden little gem. A fantastic stop before or after a show, for late night Salsa lessons or to while away a summer evening lost in a glass of red and the lilt of a jazzman.
